A great nation does not have someone like Donald Trump with a great chance to be president.

Sorry. We're not a great nation. We're pretty far from being one. There's nothing admirable nor aspirational about Trump. His only claim to fame is the wealth that he inherited and squandered.

Sure, there are pockets of the nation that are terrific, but on the whole, we are terrible.

Nixon was indeed evil. In fact, you can trace the modern Republican party all the way back to his Southern Strategy. But, he was at least intelligent. He wasn't an international embarrassment.

cruddy candidates, including right wing hate mongers. Admittedly, trump is probably the worst ever.

A coin toss, at best. We'd better not kid ourselves. Something has happened to us.

That's what will decide this election. If people get stuck at work or get distracted or just forget to vote, that alone will decide this election. How crazy is that?

A pet peeve of mine is how few "Americans" have passports and know anything at all about the rest of the world. We "should" be making it cheap & easy to get passports and encourage people to travel and see what other countries have done to solve their problems. It's amazing how backwards the US is in so many ways

and that's why the country could get rid of him in 4 years, something the monarchies of the time found unacceptably unstable.

The EC was to prevent frontier rabble from directly electing a smooth talking populist. They had no idea how easy that antidemocratic institution would be to game. They also didn't realize the people were smarter than a gamed EC and chose wisely, while the EC did not.

Still, we have tools to get rid of bad presidents when their terms are up
