I just got a letter from Hyundai. It stated that they mislead the mpg on the sticker. They are giving people the makeup of the difference plus %15 in the form of prepaid debit card. They are also covering it even if its a used vehicle. I am not sure what vehicles this covers. Check with your dealer. Ill check back in after I bring my car up to the dealer. I've put 30,000 miles on my car since January so hopefully it'll be a nice chunk in time for Christmas.

(1,975 posts)That's good to know. I'm wondering if there was going to be a class action against them or if they did it because it was the right thing to do. I'd like to think of it as the later because I love my Hyundai.

(1,975 posts)I have a 68 Camaro SS with a 502 that I built from the frame up. Doesn't get quite as good gas mileage as the Hyundai though.

(6,342 posts)The Ford Mustang for example, it's transmission is made in China, Germany, or Mexico. The Chevy Camero is made in Canada. The GMC Sierra is made in Mexico. The Ford Fusion, Focus, and Siesta are all made in Mexico.
Conversely, many foreign makers have factories in the US and other countries. Volkswagen is a German company, but the Jetta is made in Mexico and the Passat is made in Tennessee. Mercedes are built in Alabama and BMWs are built in South Carolina. Toyota builds the Avalon and Camry models in Kentucky.
Companies like GM use UAW workers. However, many parts of these vehicles are made in other countries by non-union workers. So really when people say "buy American," it really is not as simple as going to a Ford or GM dealership and thinking you are getting a car built by American hands and American parts. Read the window stickers next time you are shopping for a new car. Usually they will tell you where the parts were built.
It's a global economy now. When you buy a car from GM or Ford, you are giving your money to an American company and American engineers. But that doesn't necessarily mean the money is going to American UAW workers on the assembly line.

I'm on my second Accent (2008). The only reason I got a new(er) one was because my mom cannot drive anymore so she kindly passed it along to me. It had less than 20k miles on it.
My old one (a 2002) was at 105k and going strong. Still gets about 38 mph on the highway if everything is tuned up. Never had any major surprises, it was very reliable. I didn't expect to have 2 of these in a row but honestly, it is a great car with great mileage, very affordable (esp the second one, heh).
I've never bought a new car in my life, and never plan to. If I did, it would likely be a US, UAW company fwiw, but in the meantime I can't afford to be picky and I've happened upon 2
barely used Hyundais in a row.
