For the first time since a judge ruled that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis can continue to oversee the Georgia 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump, the focus will return to the details of the sprawling case.
During a hearing Thursday, Trumps lead attorney in Georgia is expected to argue that the indictment should be dismissed because the former presidents political speech is protected by the First Amendment.
In a motion filed in late 2023, before the unsuccessful efforts by defendants to disqualify Willis from the case emerged, Trump attorney Steve Sadow argued that the peddling of conspiracy theories and claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election were at their core political speech, and therefore Trump never should have been indicted.
The core political speech and expressive conduct alleged in this indictment against President Trump are protected from government regulation and thus criminal prosecution by the State, Sadow wrote.

What a load of bullshit. Using Trump logic a note from a bank robber instructing the teller to empty out the till is free speech.

When does the people's interest get considered and protected? Will they ever be where this asshole is concerned?
I am not a fortune teller but my guess is never.

(1,732 posts)As soon as one gets turned down, they have another to replace it, and if the judge refuses to hear them, they will just keep appealing it, and appealing all the way to the SC who will agree to hear it, but not until long after the decision won't benefit anyone but the defendant.
Sorry I know people will claim I am being a downer and maybe they have a point, but it's how I genuinely feel at this point. No one has to agree with me, if they don't want to. I don't want there to be even the the
slightest chance of him ending up back in the White House. I want there to be zero chance of that happening. Him being tried and convicted may not reduce it all the way to zero, but it least it might bring us closer to it, but with each delay the chances of him ending up in jail where he belongs before the election, is what is what's growing closer to zero instead.
