Trump Bibles such a KKK move

In 1925 in Indiana, grifter DC Stephenson saw a way to make a buck. He got people all riled up, then paid Protestant minister to preach the KKK message from the pulpit. He then charged every member of the congregation $10 for the KKK robe and extra for the hats. The kiddie costumes cost a little less.

Trump acts right out of that playbook.

The paradox of all this "strategic piety" by Republican/Conservative leaders is that, when asked:

Only 40 percent of Americans can name more than four of the Ten Commandments,
Half can cite any of the four authors of the Gospels.
Twelve percent believe Joan of Arc was Noah's wife.
Three quarters of Americans believe the Bible teaches that "God helps those who help themselves." (Ben Franklin).

(The conservative idea of "God helps those...." is to privatize Social Security, keep health care for people who can
afford it.)

As for caring for the needy: childhood nutrition, infant mortality, access to preschool - the US comes in almost last among the rich
nations--how can an overwhelmingly Christian American nation trail so bad in all these categories?

(Excerpts from Bill McKibben)
