1. I Was A Big Greenwood Fan - Bought All His Albums - Got Chills When I Heard Him Sing That Song......

then it was hijacked by Tr**p and the MAGA's. Greenwood appeared and sung it at a number of Tr**p rallies and became a Tr**p supporter.

I lost all respect for Greenwood and now when I hear that song being played - I can only associate it with the most un-American traitor in history - Tr**p.

The song turns my stomach now and Greenwood lost me.

5. What really drives me crazy are the people standing up and saluting/hands on hearts during the song playing.

Like it's the freakin' national anthem. It's even worse when they start crying.

It reminded me of that gawd awful Up With People group that would be on the Super Bowl halftime show.

In the days just before the ground invasion started a group of coworkers in our office planned to meet at a local club that was hosting an oldies night on Saturday night. Few of them cared anything about what was about to happen in Kuwait beyond the knee-jerk 'Murica! response when prompted for thoughts, but I was feeling queasy at the prospect of what was to unfold. But, that wasn't on my mind when we met up Saturday night.

Everything was cool and we were all having a good time. Then, at midnight, the DJ played that damn song. The bar nearly rose in unison and began singing. I looked around the room and people were linked arm-in-arm, some with tears rolling down their cheeks. I guess many were feeling patriotic in the moment, but I just felt creeped-the-fuck-out. I bade goodbye to a coworker and headed for the parking lot.

I liked it at first, but it wore thin real fast. I especially hate the lyric:

“And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today”

It implies he stood up before, which isn’t true; he never served. And it’s even worse since Trump has adopted it.

Then used by Bush I.

The irony is that he wrote it to unite the country. After it was scooped up by the Republicans, it became the most divisive song in the last 40 years.

But nope, jingoistic nationalism, wrapped up in bogus christianity/patriotism.

You can have it, I hate that fucking song.
