?1711449391I know which option I would pick.
This issue should be a litmus test for every Dem running for federal office, right along with codifying Roe.

Otherwise, it's more Just-Us.

118th Congress (20232025)Majority Party: Democrats (48 seats)
Minority Party: Republicans (49 seats)
Other Parties: 3 Independents
Total Seats: 100
When Pres Biden gets reelected, and The Dems/Inds hold or increase their majority in the Senate, Pres Biden should increase the number of SCJ's to 13 to match the number of U.S. Courts of Appeals that there are currently. Then he can appoint 4 new Supreme Court Justices.
There are 13 appellate courts that sit below the U.S. Supreme Court, and they are called the U.S. Courts of Appeals. The number of Appellate Courts have increased over the years, but the number of Supreme Court Justices has been the same since 1869.
Post has been corrected thanks to Fiendish Thingy pointing out my error.

(5,399 posts)6. They would have to expand the court first
They can't confirm anyone to a position that doesn't exist.

(15,611 posts)7. That is why the filibuster must die
With Manchin and Sinema gone next year, that should be one of the key questions for Dem senate candidates- Do you support killing the filibuster? Do you support expanding the court?
Where does Adam Schiff stand on this? King? Tester? Gallego?
With the filibuster in place, nothing Dems are campaigning on will get passed, not reproductive rights, climate, repealing the Comstock Act, raising minimum wage, nothing.
We need to know if there will be future obstructionists to fearless progressive governance.

(23,668 posts)8. No need to be unpleasant. I made a mistake and I thank you for pointing it out to me.
I believe I have corrected it, but you may certainly let me know if I didn't.
