Trump and his MAGA allies have been working for years to pre-rig the 2024 election. Here’s how Team Biden is planning to fight them

Over the past year, Team Biden has been conducting war games, crafting complex legal strategies, and devoting extensive resources to prepare for, as one former senior Biden administration official puts it, “all-hell-breaks-loose” scenarios. The preparations include planning for a contingency in which Biden’s margin of victory is so razor-thin that Trump and the GOP launch a tidal wave of legal challenges and political maneuvers to rerun his 2020 election strategy: declare victory anyways, and try to will it into existence.

“President Biden has been worried, for a while now, that Donald Trump is going to try to steal the election, if it’s very close on Election Day,” says a source familiar with Biden’s thinking. “If that ends up being the case, we are… also expecting the Republican Party to go into overdrive to help him steal it. We are continuing to build out the infrastructure to ensure that doesn’t happen — again — if President Biden wins and Trump and MAGA Republicans try to confuse [everyone] and sow chaos.”

According to two Biden campaign officials and two other sources with knowledge of the operation, draft pleadings and legal motions, for all kinds of possible Trump-related emergencies, are already written and at the ready. In critical swing states such as Georgia, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, Team Biden is regularly in contact with an array of outside counsels and local law firms that have been retained to actively monitor what is happening on the ground, including with regards to the activism of election-denying Trump allies.

Bidenworld’s closely-held list of nightmare scenarios — in which Democratic legal teams would have to battle it out tooth and nail with Republican counterparts before, during, or after Election Day 2024 — has grown “comically long,” says one source with direct knowledge of the matter. Biden campaign officials and other Democrats familiar with the topic tell Rolling Stone that a key concern, for which step-by-step gameplanning has already begun, is how to robustly respond if Trump and other leading Republicans try to engineer another Jan. 6-style power grab.

The rightwingers WILL try anything and everything to re-install trump into the Whitehouse.

Our one and only concern leading up to, and right after the election, is to be ready to shut down ANY of the MANY dirty tricks they will be using.

2. I'm not telling Biden what to beware of, I'm heartened to know he's actively preparing for the unthinkable.

Still, I'd be happier if I knew the Joint Chiefs were in line to prevent Jan-6 style Pentagon shenanigans. These characters must remain committed to apoliticism, 24/7. If they speechify an opinion of any kind they need removal ASAP. If there are officers who balk at being so muzzled, courts martial/demote them for reckless insubordination. If a state governor has plans to ignore any request by the president or the DC mayor or congress for assistance from their National Guard, let's know it now so they and everyone else can clearly understand the consequences. If there is violent disruption again in Washington next January, I'd like to rest assured knowing it was quickly and effortlessly quelled.

Does anyone know if Fox news is still allowed to poison the airwaves and undermine military readiness by commanders of bases overseas? I know Limbaugh is silent, but Fox's anti-American misinformation is alive, well and poses a real threat to good order and discipline. It's a genuine concern that would be more than embarrassing if Putin's NATO gamble plays sideways.

5. The television issue isn't as big of a deal as you think

Some might have Fox playing at places like the BX, rec centers or clinics, but only some. Not all.

Before COVID, my active duty neighbour sprained his ankle while his wife was at work. I took him to the base hospital to make sure it wasn't broken, and the tellies in the various waiting rooms we shuffled between played either an oldies or home renovation channel. The neighbour said that base, and those where he's had TDY assignments, general avoid Fox in the more public settings more often than not, because so many people either complained about it, or the patients were getting into too many arguments about it.

He also said that the rec center was really the only place with Fox playing consistently, but it was only one or two of the bank of tellies in front of exercise machines.

Some bases may do things differently, but the impression he gave was that the accusations about the prevalence (and thus influence) of Fox on military bases might be a tad overblown.

6. My comparison is the Spangdahlem USAFB in Germany, in 2001.

Fox was on every TV I saw there and Rush on every radio I heard, at that time. I heard from some there how they preferred Fox because it was "speaking more for America and Americans than the other networks".

It's good it's not, per your testimony, that way so much today. It served no good purpose except as a means of trying to ensure the airmen were on the same political page. It was right after 9/11, 50-cals at every driveway and gate, geared up to take on anyone or thing which didn't seem right. Uselessly dark days, unless you were Bush's 2004 campaign manager.

Fox should never on any Military base. They are pure propaganda.

3. With age comes WISDOM.

Joe is more aware of the scenarios playing out from many angles. Being prepared gives no excuse for NOT being prepared. Especially in the swing states that gave him the Presidency in 2020. As he has a campaign plan and TSF does not.

It also shows that Team Biden is spending money wisely and will also help down ballot races as well.
