The "X" in Xmas is the Greek letter "chi" which is the same symbol in that fish on the back of their car.

?????ό? - Christos

These nitwits don't even know Christian history.

I saw them a year ago at the Voodoo Experience festival in New Orleans.

I also read an interview with members of X, where they claim that they draw more attendance at shows now than they ever did in the early 80s.

Merry Xmas on a card making assignment in the first grade. As a little kid I thought WTF, OK, OK, but no need to get red in the face and scream for 15 minutes. ... of course, she was a battle axe to begin with ...

You could suggest that every time an X occurs, we should spell out 'Christ.'

We'd be playing Christylophones and getting all eChristcited for (and eChristhausted by) our holiday shopping.

I was told it's a way to avoid using the name Christ when spelling the holiday. Probably right, so I do it more now.

I was pretty ambivalent about people's religion all my life until my youngest son turned Witness. Now I miss seeing my grandchildren and have great resentment toward those who want me to change in order to preserve their beliefs.

????? (Ichthys) is an acronym for "Ί???ῦ? ?????ό?, ???ῦ ?ἱό?, ???ή?", (Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr), which translates into English as "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior".

How these people don't know that X is a dual symbol for Christ - both as an initial and sign of the cross - is amazing.

I cannot find it; I thought it was on DU. It has historically been used to stand for the word "Christ" by leaders in the church. It comes from the Greek language....

Thanks for the info.

back when the Christians were persecuted.

Its actually got a ton of meaning for Christians and they reject it out of ignorance (which shouldn't surprise me actually).

The Greek letter X or chi is the first letter of the word Christos and was often used by early Christians to signify their faith. Xmas is just an abbreviation, not an elimination of Christ.
