Trump is a political Medusa

Medusa, for those who’ve forgotten their junior high school mythology training, was the goddess who had live snakes instead of hair, and was so horrifyingly repulsive that if one’s gaze fell upon her, that individual would turn into stone. It is extremely important to note that after she was beheaded by Perseus, he would use her head as a weapon because it still worked.

As we here and elsewhere have stated on many occasions, everything Trump touches dies, or more accurately, turns into metaphorical shit. Businesses, political parties, careers, professionals, institutions, consciences, and all other entities just wither when his presence and influence are at hand. It is inexorable and inevitable. No one and nothing has ever escaped this fate.

Yet, Trump lives on: he is a moneymaker for nearly everyone: media outlets, consultants on both sides, advertising agencies, and others, but there will come a time when he leaves this “mortal coil” for, I believe, the fires of Hades for all eternity.

Now there is going to be a movement in this country which is going to treat his visage and his memory as many who identify with Jesus do presently. The Party will show his face, as Perseus wielded the head of Medusa, and the masses of acolytes will pay homage to the One and Only. A mythology will be erected around him and all of the elements which we, the “Left”, are outraged by, will be mitigated by a series of lies and terrible distortions. He will be eulogized and held in the highest esteem imaginable.

Think not? He will be the face of “honesty”, of “forthrightness”, of bravery, fighting for the common good of the common man in what is left of America. Still not convinced? Then tell me the last time you heard anyone excoriate the memory of Ronald Reagan in the mass media, despite all the terrible occurrences during 1981- 1988 including but not limited to the terrorist bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, having ignored American and Israeli intelligence warning him of a possible attack, the Iran-Contra Scandal, and his obvious senility encroaching rapidly but disguised by a willing press as “normal aging”. Not one word even by so-called liberals.

Trump is next in the pantheon of “telling it like it really is”. God help us all.

And where would this be taking place? Not on the three major cable news networks, not in the major papers, and not on the evening news or even the Discovery Channel or C-SPAN.

for him to be taking up almost any discussion, here 40 years on, on any of those organs.

But the fact remains - the veneer of sanctity and inviolate that covered that previous persona - has eroded considerably.
And you rarely ever hear (even on the opposite side) people singing hosannas. (quite possibly because the party and prior fan base has moved so far ... ? )

Ask 'anyone' old enough to have lived through those times and I predict Reagan would garner significantly less than a fifty percent approval rating.

I remember how much "W" was worshipped. But when he was done, he quickly became a non-person.

Reagan was deified for a long time, but only selectively quoted by today's conservatives - just as the Christian Right only selectively quote Jesus.

Trump is even harder to quote since very little of what he says is even coherent.
