as played by Glenn Close.

This "Senator" clearly seems to have a screw or two loose (at a minimum). Her performance was certainly at least vaguely reminiscent of an insane person--serial killer creepy.

I think Katie Britt's most prominent affect was her fake "sweet and demure" nicey nice mom act. Glen Close's character in the film were nothing like that.

It is an insane effect that many are responding to--not making a direct comparison to Glenn Close's character--only the insane, unpredictable outcome suggestive of a very unbalanced person--the worst that would be a serial killer. And the Close character certainly did end up obsessed to the point of being arguably insane.

Before you mistakenly claim I am accusing her of being "insane," I am NOT. I am saying it was all performance--and bad performance at that.

I watched her 'response' in parts..I tuned in for the first few minutes of the phoney sweet "trad mom" act, couldn't stand it and turned her off. Later, out of curiousity, I turned it back on and she was into the voice trembling/fake crying thing, and I turned it off again.
It wasn't until the next day that I saw anything from her that seemed "angry" to me, so that may be why I didn't perceive a "quick switch"..My impression of her overall was that she was a laughably bad actor.

It's a movie about a guy (Michael Douglas) who has an one-night stand with a woman (Glenn Close) who turns out to be a crazy stalker. When he breaks up with her she starts terrorizing him and his family, including by killing his daughter's pet rabbit and leaving it for him to find boiling in a pot in his kitchen.

An excellent movie.

Off topic, Glenn Close has had 8 Oscar nominations and zero wins. Tied with Peter O’Toole for most nominations without a win.

That it's from the film, Fatal Attraction. Glenn Close, as a spurned one-night-stand of Michael Douglas, sneaks into his suburban home, and boils his son's pet bunny on the stove.

I haven't seen the movie at all, and even I know about its most famous scene:
