In the rare statement, carried by the Prime Ministers Office, the Mossad said Barnea met on Friday with his American counterpart, as part of the ceaseless effort to advance another deal for the return of the hostages. The meeting reportedly took place in Amman, Jordan.
At this stage, Hamas is fortifying its position as if it is not interested in a deal, and it strives to ignite the region during Ramadan at the expense of the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip, the Mossad said.
The Mossad added that the talks and cooperation with the mediators continue all the time in an attempt to narrow the gaps and advance agreements.

How much does Hamas care about the lives of ordinary Gazans/Palestinians?

(35,359 posts)Viri were less pervasive then.
Among the sites that I strongly, vehemently despised, I ran across a phrase that stuck in my mind.
Ramadan was "the month of jihad."
Back then, "jihad" was (we were told) a form of navel-gazing, introspection. And never, but never, anything more. This changed, but only for WEIRD consumers of media. Yet the idea that "Ramadan is 'the month of jihad' " didn't surface.
It's a hard place. If you're a certain strain of Muslim, that's true. If not, it's not. Yet media has trouble--perhaps because WEIRDs have trouble--drawing the distinction between the two cohorts.
I've had faculty, peers, and students who, upon knowing that (at the time) I (at some point in block time) kept shabbat, treated me like absolute shit. "month-of-jihad" folk. I must be a "dirty Jew." I'm not. Never have been. Now I'm a "fallen" Christian. But most haven't cared.
Being in that situation increases sensitivity a bit. No more accurate, but a bit more aware.

(121 posts)I notice that a large part of members in Equity minded groups of which I am a member come from different marginalized groups. It seems that being separated from rights is a real eye-opener. I believe the current phrase has something to do with a face-eating-tiger being none too particular about the faces it eats.
