to lift the caps!
See this thread to learn about new legislation introduced to lift the cap on SS deductions which will make it solvent for DECADES:

There are plenty of people here who are better than me at properly wording the petition (Will Pitt, are you there?) which can be filed here:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/
If the petition reaches 25k signatures or more, the WH will read, consider, and respond. We can easily reach that number if we spread the word. And Thank You President O for allowing us this opportunity!
Although others here would be better at wording the petition than me, here are some suggestions that I personally would like to see included:
1. The privatization movement is obviously fueled by those who see the huge SS fund as an opportunity to tap into these funds for personal gain.
2. SS is meant as a safety net regardless of the fluctuations in the private market.
3. Private market solutions already exist in the 401k options, which are meant as a supplement to SS - not a replacement.
4. Anyone who doubts the need and advantages of SS over private market solutions need only look at recent Market fluctuations.
5. Increasing the purchasing power of the consumer base ultimately HELPS the economy overall and thus the "selling class". i.e., the more that consumers can afford to buy products, the more products will be sold. Therefore, this should not be viewed as a short-term loss but as a long-term investment.
Any more suggestions? Remember, we need to give the WH as much ammo as possible!
Also remember, a lot of that ammo is WE, THE PEOPLE so we also need to put pressure on our Representatives to "do the right thing."
Our President needs US. As he said in his acceptance speech, the fight has only just begun. It is not up to him, it is up to US. I personally think this petition idea is a great start - and we need to encourage all of our Senators and House Representatives to do something similar. It is still in it's infancy so it can still be abused (the secession petitions are a perfect example), but it can be a very useful tool if we allow it to be.

(811 posts)As I said, they see this pool of resources as a huge opportunity for them that they want to tap for their own personal gain. If we give them other options other than the one that they try to push on us, then we are - in essence - saying "keep your effing hands off Social Security!".
If we give them other options to resolve the issues that they have constructed, then see how quickly they change their minds. If we tell them that the best way to resolve the issue os to erase the Cap and therefore charge them more, watch and see how quickly they change their minds!

(811 posts)but nobody wants to do anything about it?
If you disagree with the method, I would at least appreciate something saying so.
But just to ignore it? Does anyone care? Does anyone want to take even the least of actions? Is there any question why NOTHING is being done?

(811 posts)with Republicans stealing Social Security and privatizing it?
I'm sorry, but I am tempted to respond to every "Save SS" post as "you has your chance, you f*cked up, it's your fault."
We have a chance here, why would you NOT want to take advantage of it?
If you think it's wrong, now is your opportunity to say that, too.
