On edit: Paddy Power is the largest bookmker in Europe (see wiki link) and they paid out bets on Obama winning the election 2 days early(see DU link and image).

Polls have opened for the Time Person of the Year 2012 competition and Paddy Power has of course opened a betting market on who will be chosen this year.
Unsurprisingly they have chosen Barack Obama as the most likely candidate. The President of the United States, who has just secured a second term, has been given odds of 1/3 making him the clear favourite.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about Paddy Powers odds is the vast gap between the favourite and the second favourite, the Higgs Boson Team.
The team, whose work at the large hydrogen collider (LHC) led to the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle, has been given odds of 10/1, significantly lower than Barack Obamas 1/3.
Paddy Power offer odds on a total of 41 possible candidates. Strangely enough, the odds on Bashar Al Assad (20/1), the President of Syria, are far better than a number of equally unlikely candidates such as Vladimir Putin (33/1) or Lady Gaga (50/1).
The inclusion of these figures at all in the list, and the slightly strange betting odds just go to demonstrate that Paddy Power really is convinced that no one other than Obama has a chance of being awarded the title.

the indignities heaped upon him. How many of us could put up with the BS this gentleman has had to endure?

The fact he not only won, but did so decisively, I think he deserves it.

And I've updated the OP with links to avoid any further confusion.
