(13,933 posts)Her hand, on the table. The shadow under his tie is just the contours of her dress, I think. His right arm just fades to black. Maybe it would be visible Orin his pocket if the picture of the picture was better/not shown at an angle.
I suppose their other arms/hands are wrapped around behind each other.
It's a tacky picture, in my opinion (it's not actually on black velvet is it?), but I don't see anything particularly strange about the hands. Sometimes I need things spelled out for me.

Honey, if you're going to have a formal portrait done, dress for the occasion.

(35,392 posts)she'd be considered wayyyyy too formal ...

(111,286 posts)I imagine she'd be overdressed for Texas or Florida, though.

On edit: I believe that this was painted from a photograph. It has all the hallmarks of that process.

(53,410 posts)I'm a portrait artist. It looks like maybe it should be in his pant's pocket, but that can't be. And why would it be depicted that way anyway? The technical artwork itself looks pretty good though the poses are odd and look contrived giving the painting a classless quality.
I really don't think the artists meant what it looks like. Maybe it's the light. Maybe someone came along afterwards and messed the portrait up. The way it looks there it almost seems like someone ruined that part of the canvas.

(1,267 posts)Hmmmmm...........no. Her dress choice was horrendous -- loud floral print + side cleveage does not equal = elegant and timeless portrait.

(24,096 posts)I don't really see anything odd except maybe her hand - very shadowy can't see much detail.

(11,065 posts)This woman wasn't having an affair with anyone. All she did was complain of the threatening emails being sent to her from Broadwell, and for some reason both her and her sister - who has nothing to do with anything - have been shredded up, down and sideways here. Meanwhile, barely a word about either Patreaus or Allen.

(24,634 posts)She's the one with the twin right? They made it seem as though she was having an affair with Patreaus in one of the articles I was reading and (this one I know to be false) that her and her sister had special invite into the White House with their families when in actuality they went to the "open to the public" locations.

They need to fire whoever dusts their tables.
Perhaps just a wee too much boobage in a formal portrait (her, not him).
Who has a formal portrait done these days, anyway?

(25,558 posts)I am almost certain it is painted from a photo. They always look cartoonish for a variety of reasons. That's why great artists usually require live models for official portraits.o
