I now understand why McCain has it in for Susan Rice

Little petty folks like McCain NEVER forget an insult.

From Susan Rices wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Rice

Rice went on leave from the Brookings Institution to serve as a senior foreign policy advisor to Senator Barack Obama in his 2008 presidential campaign. Rice took a disparaging view of Obama's Republican opponent in the campaign, John McCain, calling his policies "reckless" and dismissing the Arizona Senator's trip to Iraq as "strolling around the market in a flak jacket

I'd forgotten all about this little incident.

I will not feel sorry or pay homage to this man because he spent 7 yrs as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton any more. That said, his lying, trashing our President, trashing this outstandingly capable and qualified public servant who has performed her job admirably well and with total class at the UN. For many of us, I'm afraid, this is one old gent who's spent all his political capital - and sadly, reveals himself to be the bitter, nasty, entitled, poor sport that he evidently is. He's been around the block a few times by now. He should know better. As an officer and a gentleman and the patriot I think he'd like to be regarded as - this is conduct unbecoming against our Commander-in-Chief - and during wartime at that. I can think of no one person who has been so fundamentally wrong on nearly every foreign policy issue than John McCain. When you go back and listen to that speech he gave at the convention in Tampa, his demand for intervention in Syria is yet another disastrous misstep.
The whole flak jacket fiasco was only the culmination of his Iraq war-mongering. Prior to the invasion, he was telling the American people that
"Saddam Hussein is on a crash course to construct a nuclear weapon."

Of course there was precious little evidence to support that but it was good to build up support for George and Dick's Bogus Military adventure. After the invasion he continued to misinform the public.

McCain’s predictions before, during and after the Iraq war and occupation were amazingly incorrect, and in nearly every instance.
In March 2003, he stated that the conflict would be “relatively short."
A few months later, as things went from bad to worse, he said, "I would argue that the next three to six months will be critical."
By December of 2005 he was still repeating the same things, "We will probably see significant progress in the next six months to a year."
In spite of this clear attempt to mislead the American public, McCain still hasn’t accepted his responsibility. In McCain’s case, it’s not merely the wishful thinking of a war hero long past his political due-date. It is pure deception, lies told to the American public.

Also during his brisk stroll in the Baghdad marketplace with a cohort of security and a flak jacket in April 2007, he told the press:

"Things are better and there are encouraging signs. I've been here many times over the years. Never have I been able to drive from the airport. Never have I been able to go out into the city as I was today. The American people are not getting the full picture of what's happening here today."

The American people were indeed not getting the full picture, and McCain is one of the reasons that they didn't.

Glad you're here! John McCain has a tin ear when it comes to foreign policy. Remember during the GOP CONvention in 2012 when he spoke, and rattled the sabers about how many different wars we rightfully should be starting and/or otherwise getting into? I counted FIVE by the time he was finished speaking. I kep T thinking - um, who's gonna be fighting these wars, John? YOU gonna suit up and go over there and put your own money where your mouth is? And with what money, pray tell? Gonna advocate raising taxes to pay for it - which any normal administration would find the need to do?

I think anybody who advocates that ardently for war should be required to enlist and ship out for combat immediately. And that includes those who served already. You want it that badly? Well, lead the way then. After YOU, then!
