Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi. That was his name.

Mr. Hamoodi was seized and then beaten by four men.

After he still refused to give up details of an alleged "plot" to ambush U.S. troops, he was informed by the unit's commander, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Allen Bernard West, that West would kill him. When Mr. Hamoodi still did not give up any information, West took Mr. Hamoodi to a barrel used for cleaning weapons, shoved his head inside the barrel, and then discharged his weapon about a foot from his head.

Only after this incident did Mr. Hamoodi provide supposed information concerning the alleged ambush. However, a subsequent search of Mr. Hamoodi's home found no weapons or plans of attack, and no ambush ever occurred. Mr. Hamoodi was released by U.S. military officials without charges.

That's who I will be thinking about today. Not the loser (in all meanings of the word) in Florida's District 18, but Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi.

That we somehow reward those who torture by electing them to public office. It looks horrible on us as Americans.

Thankfully, the wrong has been righted.
