I am 58 and just got a new job. 5 year contract. Hang in there...

Finished my degree after years this summer. Hang in there, companies will still hire you. I'm in the IT field. I've worked a lot of contract jobs for 3 to 6 months but work is out there.

It's good to hear that companies are hiring well-qualified people, in spite of their age!

but start a new job next week. Crap pay, but enough to eke it out until I can collect social security and/or sell my home and downsize.

I gave up on corporations, went back to federal contracting.

The corporations are largely like Romney,
keeping a position is mostly about being a good liar and cheater now.

They just hate it when I ask how many round of golf/pizzas/hookers did that contract cost you?

Not that they are all like that, but I have seen some real interesting paper on a few, and seen the results.

just sayin'

who think that not a single person over the age of 50 has found a job in this country in recent years.

I'm 64, and I have gotten work several times since turning 60. Now, in my case, these are all entry-level jobs, but I have still found employment.

All the better that you have a 5 year contract.

For sure, DU has many more "I got a job" posts than it used to. That's a good reflection on the situation out there. We do represent a good cross section of the population.
