Huffington Post has a slide show of Hostess products. Here's some of the most iconic names:
Twinks
Wonder Bread
Ho Hos (my favorite)
Ding Dongs
Fruit Pies
Cupcakes
Something else (see show)
Check out the slide show for a nostalgia trip back to your TV-fixated childhood.

(2,795 posts)I love Ho Hos even though I haven't eaten one in years. I've bought them for my boys, though. And I like the cupcakes.
Hopefully Pabst Blue Ribbon beer will buy them and keep the yummy junk food coming!

(8,830 posts)I bought one about six months ago - why I'm not sure - and was really disappointed. They changed the frosting. The frosting made the cupcake (well that and the white fluff inside the cupcake).
Healthy? No. Memory lane? Absolutely. But they were changed and so there was no memory left. I always liked the orange flavored ones best . . .

(2,795 posts)I LOVE the red raspberry ones. I wonder if the store still has any left. I need to go tomorrow to pick up a few things, if there are those red Zingers left, I'm buying a few boxes.
I heard people are selling Hostess products on ebay. I suppose all have been bought to hock on ebay for exorbitant prices
MynameisBlarney
(2,979 posts)But the chocolate ones, oh yeah, getting some tomorrow.

(14,559 posts)I can taste the preservatives aka chemicals in store bought sweets.
Hostess is better that way then Little Debbie and others...but it's just not what I eat.

I'm not a baked goods fan and have never really bought any Hostess brand stuff except for an occasional loaf of Wonder bread and way back when Donettes (little crappy white doughnuts with a good powdered sugar to dough ratio for someone who doesn't really like doughnuts). Haven't really bought them since the came in the cello bag so about 10 years but I would still save them.

I didn't have them all that often, but o yah, when I did it was nirvana.

(25,029 posts)or inedible (twinkies almost always, snowballs).
I'd rather have zingers (especially the raspberry/coconut ones) than twinkies so they are both pretty inedible and replaceable.
SAVE THE ORANGE CUPCAKES!!!

(1,008 posts)Honestly, I haven't eaten any of them in ages - except for a one-night stand with Lemon Fruit Pie last year Don't ask.
But those pictures have re-stimulated me.

2naSalit
(86,817 posts)I loved devil dogs, and ring dings made only Drakes back then. Once they were bought out by Hostess, they totally sucked and I didn't like them anymore... aside from the fact that they shrunk, had less white stuff and cost more anyway. I remember Devils Dogs for a nickel or a dime... and they were wrapped in waxed paper.
Now, it's all high fructose corn syrup, zanthum gum and preservatives with food coloring, yuk. Makes my teeth hurt just thinking about them.
So if I had to choose one, it would be Wonder Bread because you can at least put something containing nutrients between two slices of the cardboard-like substance that might, by looks only, pass for bread. I stopped eating white bread when Sunbeam Bread went away.
I do feel bad for the employees, not about the end of some really horrid, barely edible or digestible crap. Although it is a form of job security for chemical corps and the medical industrial complex, especially dentists and endocrinologists. Won't miss 'em one bit.

(48,955 posts)What I will miss is the discount Hostess Bread shop in town. It helped many people on limited budgets. Per any of the "treats" - can't miss (and thus vote for saving from extinction) something one hasn't had in decades.

(1,289 posts)I remember back in my 20s when I was working for my uncle's company building and installing conveyors, we were doing an install at a Hostess bakery and the fruit pie line was running not far away where we were working. Ever so often we'd go snag one off the conveyor, still fresh and hot out of the oven.

Fruit pies? Ya gotta be kidding me. I was in my 30's before I realized that their "fruit pies" are horrible commercial imitations of my mom's peach and cherry turnovers... that's how bad the crust on those things is.

(578 posts)These had been my own special rare childhood treat when we could afford them. Have eaten the other flavors; not as tasty or memorable. The apple version - love them!
Twinkies are a close second.

(23,156 posts)I have never understood the salivating over Twinkies. In my humble opinion, they have always been awful. Although to be honest, I probably haven't tasted one since about 1957. I think I tried one or two, concluded they were the devil's attempt to overcome mankind, and have never had one since.
But the cupcakes have always been pretty good, in my opinion. And they're a food that hasn't changed much in appearance or taste in the last fifty years or so.
