Judge Threatens 'Imprisoning' Trump for 'Blatantly' Violating Gag Order

The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s bank fraud trial threatened to throw the former president in jail—and hit him with punishing fines—for “blatantly” violating a gag order by refusing to delete a website post attacking court staff.

Justice Arthur F. Engoron, striking a serious tone, began Friday at trial by laying out the high stakes and demanding that Trump’s lawyers explain themselves.

...

But now, Trump appears to be facing a very real threat of spending time in jail if his antics continue.

Defense lawyer Christopher Kise immediately apologized for Trump’s behavior, blaming the 2024 Republican presidential candidate’s bloated “campaign machinery” for simply forgetting to remove a webpage that mirrored the Truth Social post Trump had already deleted.

I thought this is what TFG might do -- link to another site which had the original post about the Judge's law clerk and Sen. Schumer still posted. Frankly, I don't think it was a error by "campaign machinery." I believe Trump thought he could get away with it and, if he did not and he was sanctioned, well, that might aid his campaign treasure chest.

Then we'll see if TFG's statement about being able to shoot someone on 5th Avenue was prophetic.

Two-tiered justice system on full display.

More empty rhetoric. More pointless, spineless people refusing to hold trump accountable. This is pathetic. Even our justice system is broken. The only people our "justice" system ever hold "accountable" are people with brown skin.

Poor White people do have it better than people of color, but they are also disproportionately incarcerated for crimes that rich people, and especially rich White people are never even charged with.

The Tiers of the Justice system have to do with resources and racial prejudice.

You're going to have to back it up with actions, because he won't stop. An apology from one of his mouthpieces isn't sufficient; you have to get him in court (without the jury present, of course), under oath, and lay it out chapter and verse, and end off with "Do you understand what I just said?" and make him repeat it back to you. Correct him like a toddler if he gets anything wrong. No more "forgetting," no more "campaign machinery." If it comes out of the defendant's camp, it belongs to the defendant.

Unduly prejudices the jury. Judge cannot do that. The jurors are not allowed while on jury duty to watch TV, read/listen to the news, etc. Putting this on in front of them would be in the same category.

I am hoping some judge somewhere has the balls to slam him and confine him in some manner...even it if is just home confinement. IMO, with this TFG will go nuts and willfully and intentionally violate gag orders and other terms of his release.

We can only hope.

Without ever seriously being held accountable for his actions, why would Trump ever change?

Think. Again.

...to allow a defendant, who is known to violate and skirt laws, any leeway at all when the safety of others is at stake.

The judge should have held trump responsible for violating his order (and in fact lying that the post had been deleted). It doesn't matter who under trump left it up or even if it was a mistake. If taking down ALL of his social media was the only way he could assure he abided by the order, then that's what he should have done. Abiding by the order was the only relevant point.

trump has repeatedly broken the law, and remained completely and utterly free of the consequences. Enough is enough. More than enough. At long last, throw him in jail and let him gain an understanding of what it's like when the bill comes due. Letting him repeatedly escape punishment just encourages him and his deranged followers to engage in ever worse behavior. Enough.
