Couples kiss in support of marriage equality bill in Paris

Couples in Paris took the streets in front of the Hotel de Ville Thursday night to stage a gay 'kiss-in' to show their support for a marriage equality bill that would grant equal marriage and adoption rights to gay couples. Nearly one thousand people reportedly participated in the demonstration, which faced the building that houses the city's administration.

The hotly debated bill received the stamp of approval from President Francois Hollande's cabinet earlier this month, but will now have to pass the country's legislature, where it is being held up by right-leaning conservatives.

This is not the first time Paris' LGBT community has staged a 'kiss-in' protest to call attention to the "marriage for all" legislation. On Nov. 7, more than 1,500 people showed up to support gay marriage in a similar protest in front of the l'Assemblée nationale, France's National Assembly.

Gay marriage in France also received a lot of media attention in October, when two straight women kissed in front of an anti-gay marriage protest in Marseille.
