GREAT news in Detroit

What this article does not tell you is that this company is owned by an out-lesbian couple who are raising kids together. They opened their original location in a fairly scary neighborhood and helped bring the area back.

Avalon International Breads to shift production to new east-side Detroit site

One of Detroit's most popular bakeries, Avalon International Breads, said Wednesday that it is nearing completion of its new Avalon City Kitchens production facility on the city's east side.

Avalon has been renovating a vacant 50,000-square-foot warehouse near Forest and Bellevue on the city's east side. It will shift most of its production there while continuing to operate at its longtime home near Willis and Cass in the city's Midtown district.

A large artisan deck oven, recently shipped from Italy, is being installed at the new location.

Avalon City Ovens will serve the artisan bakery's growing wholesale and retail customers.
