YOOHOO!!!! DUers need your help!!!

(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. The administrators of Democratic Underground make no claims regarding the legitimacy or illegitimacy of this fundraising effort. Permission was granted by Skinner on 8/6/2010, and the moderators have been notified.&quot

PLEASE NOTE: I created an OP last Sunday evening, to gather the DU community to help members affected by Sandy, but no one has created a Wishlist post thus far relating to the Sandy aftermath. See OP. If anyone creates a Sandy-related Wishlist post, I'll update that OP!

HOWEVER, a long-time DUer, who is fairly quiet on here and has helped with other DUer Wishlist needs previously, needs our help -- actually, her rescue pet needs our help! (DUer, aroach).

Please read the Wishlist post (with an update, given an overnight crisis) at this link. Please note the PayPal email addy provided at the bottom of the listing:

http://www.wishadoo.org/wishlist/136/help-with-spay-operation-for-rescued-pit-bull/

ALSO, there are a few more DUer's with Wishlist posts. Please refer to THIS PREVIOUS POST which outlines the specific DUers and what they need help with.

You can contact these DUers here, or via Wishadoo. Actually, I could use an update from these same DUers; if any of you see this, please contact me!

If you could kindly K&R and keep this kicked for visibility, I'd appreciate it!

It is correct that I lurk a good deal more than I post here. For the most part I come here to learn and stay informed and to not feel so alone being a blue person in a red state.

First, let me tell you that Zynga is home from the vet. He says that the ibuprofen was not in her system long enough to cause liver or kidney damage. There is a danger of a bleeding stomach ulcer and he sent her home with three different stomach protectants. The bill was not as bad as I anticipated but right now every dime matters around here.

I hate to ask for help because my husband has a supposedly good job and I am a full-time stay-at-home mom and student. Any time we have money problems I get asked why I don't just go get a job. Well, here's why:

Our son is on the autism spectrum and he goes to occupational therapy twice a week, physical therapy once a week, and has various other appointments. I am constantly up at his school for one reason or another. I don't know what job would put up with that. Our insurance is fairly crappy and our portion after insurance for his OT alone is around $800 a month. That's how we ended up with 12 maxed out credit cards and all our bills behind. I finally got him on Social Security Disability which enabled me to get him on secondary Medicaid to pay the deductible and co-insurance. It is still income based though and if I get a job he will lose the social security and then the Medicaid and we will owe more in medical bills than I can earn.

I am in school finishing up an accounting degree that I started over 25 years ago. I will officially be in my senior year next semester. My hope is that by the time I graduate my son will be finished with his various therapies and we can finally stop living paycheck to paycheck.

With my student aid last semester I bought a used car for $1200 because getting my son to all his appointments and my husband to work, etc. was just too hard with only one car. That car immediately needed over a thousand dollars in repairs and I have not yet had the money to get it tagged and legal. But at least I have it now and except for needing a heater core it is all fixed.

I gave the rest of the student aid money to my sister because her utilities were shut off and her car was broken down and I figured she needed it more than I did. She lost her mother-in-law in the Joplin tornado -- one of the residents of the nursing home that was hit -- and then three weeks after the tornado she lost her husband to cancer. Her husband did not have any insurance and she has struggled financially since he died. So, yes, I had the money but I gave it away.

Our cell phones are shut off because I can't pay the bill but honestly that's almost the last thing on my priority list. The only reason it's on my list at all is a teenage daughter.

I need to get back to my original post. It would make a huge difference to be able to have Zynga spayed without having wait until income tax refund time. It would also be nice if instead of child-proof bottles I could get medicine in dog-proof bottles.

12. Money has been raised for Zynga's spay

I have received two promises of checks in the mail and one PayPal donation and the three together will cover Zynga's spay operation. I will let everyone know when her appointment is. They may want to wait until she is finished with the medications for her poisoning yesterday.

I truly appreciate this help and it helps me in more ways than financial. It's good to know people care. Thank you.

I've been contacted by a DU'er who wants to reimburse me for the vet bill that we already paid this week. I can't tell you how much that helps us. I was short of being able to pay the utility bill because of the vet bill and now I will be able to pay it before I get a shut-off notice. I was so worried about that because our next payday is not until November 30th and I didn't think I'd be able to put them off that long.

Thank you! You have really made a difference for my family. This Thanksgiving I will be thankful for all of you.

By the way, Zynga seems to be feeling just fine and giving her the medication has proven to be ridiculously easy. She really will eat anything.
