John Metz, Denny's Franchisee And Hurricane Grill & Wings Owner, Imposes Surcharge For Obamacare

While some business owners threaten to cut workers' hours to avoid paying for their health care, a West Palm Beach, Fla., restaurant owner is going even further. John Metz said he will add a 5 percent surcharge to customers' bills to offset what he said are the increased costs of Obamacare, along with reducing his employees' hours.

If this is on the ticket people might think it is a setting of the tip (even as low as it is) and either not add in the tip or reduce it by 5%.

This is happening everywhere in the hospitality industry. If you're going to boycott them all, you're not going to be eating out. Period.

Yes, if you like Denny's and don't dine at this asshole's place, don't stop yet. This is just one franchisee, not the entire chain. Let the corporate office respond to this guy before you boycott all Denny's.

11. Nope to Denny's: This is a Franchise issue, not a Denny's issue.

The local Dennys I know is run by folks who will give anyone who says they're homeless a free meal based solely on the honor system, and I had to take advantage of that for a brief time myself. Likewise, their employees are treated solidly, and the cooks know what they're doing and take pride in their work. I'll probably be heading there later tonight to continue collecting their Hobbit cards, and to continue leaving my normal 40-50% tip for the awesome service they render.

Can't say anything about Hurricane; don't have any of those up here.
