I see no reason for Obama to sit down with Romney

There has been talk about Obama sitting down with Romney to discuss solutions for the upcoming actions on the debt and taxes.
Given Romney's obnoxious statements yesterday, I see nothing he can offer to the debate.
He now has written off 51% of the population (up from 47%).
What a arrogant twit.

Not only for Obama's supporters - but for a (are we allowed to say it) a black/minority President - it's a "sit down and shut up 'boy' " move. I do not want that piece of shit anywhere near the President of the United States. He has zero worth and isn't fit to be invited to the White House.

My hatred is showing. Don't care. He earned my hate.

As a black man who has faced racism the president knows that this would actually be a humbling moment for Romney. Nothing will hurt Romney more than having to publicly face the fact that President Obama still owns that seat and Romney couldn't change it.

Racists like Romney can't stand having to walk into a room where the boss is black. Some of us know exactly what President Obama is doing.

My father did as a young boy, my grandfather HAD to, his father HAD to (Jim Crow South). . . Those days are over.

You do/say everything but call me a n-bomb - you don't get my time or attention. There are millions of other caucasian people in this country who aren't assholes . . . my mother, my husband, folks at DU, etc. etc.

And trust me - if the shoe were on the other foot - no waaaaaaaaaay Romeny would invited him into his 'white' House.

I know how this works. I know the northeast very well and I know how people are made to pay homage to who is in charge. This what is done to show who is in control. Telling Romney he MAY come to the White House and will be ALLOWED to speak to the man in charge is a blow to Romney's ego.

Nothing infuriates a racist more than having to walk in the room and know the boss is black and there is not a damn thing they can do about it.

President Obama is saying to Romney I can be gracious because I already kicked your A-- and I am still the president B. That will be humiliating for Romney.

geez. Obama is not our puppet. He is President of the people who didn't vote for him and now that he does not have to face another campaign, is smart to try to get some support from them or at least look reasonable and as if he took their views into account. That they wouldn't do so in the reverse case is a reflection on their poor characters.

And a lot of Republicans are only too happy to spurn him. But being a politician means playing politics and I don't see anything wrong with this.

At least Obama can say, "I met with the leader of the opposition." Forget that he was never that except in the most transitory way, it's the image that counts.

And sure, I sort of agree with you that there is another, less useful image involved with Romney, that of giving personal time to an imbecile and a racist.

Still, politics is a funny business.

And emasculating Romney emasculates the GOP itself in a subtler way.

It is not a slap in the face to us and if you really knew about racism then you would know it is a slap in the face to Romney. Seeing a reelected President Obama still sitting in the White House would be a sting.

Seriously, i don't need a lecture from you about racism. I have lived it just like President Obama.

Perhaps the poster should have written "gangsta" with an "a". It's an expression to describe a cunning, assertive approach. Kinda like the "Please proceed" bit - innocuous at first glance, but oh so gangsta.

This can be another one of PBO's teachable moments. Without saying much, he'll twist the knife even further into Romney. He already hates the thought of BO as President. Having to sit and have a respectful dialogue with PBO? Utter torture after his behavior in the debates.

when he responded to that question, "I think Gov. Romney did an excellent job ... with the Olympics." It wasn't a joke, but I think it was an attempt to subtly downplay the idea that Romney can really contribute anything to the Democratic agenda going forward. Obama, ever the class act, did this politely, even though of course, Romney will never be what one can call "a class act", unless that class is low.

It's not as if it was hunky dory before he said that.

Romney has NEVER been fit to contribute ideas to moving the country forward.

But this "visit" will neutralize the Romney campaign whining, who will whine that POTUS never engages the RW (which we know is a total lie, but they'll work it nonetheless). And when the MSM tries to parrot that same crap, they'll have, once again, no foundation for the lie that they're helping the RW to spread.
