Donny Deutsch to S.E. Cupp on Morning Joe - "Will you (or perhaps...do you ever) stop talking"

During the Morning Politico update the topic of Romney's conference call and the "gifts" comment came up.

The fact that a number of national Republican leaders spoke out against the statement led to the discussion of how the Republican party needs to realize it needs to change.

Cupp of course says that there is nothing wrong with the party.

Deutsch takes advantage of Cupp taking a breath and gets into the conversation telling Cupp that the Republicans need to realize that their "brand" is out of touch with today's population.

Cupp cuts off Donny stating that there's nothing wrong with the brand but that Republicans just need to better portray their policies.

At that point and totally exasperated Deutsch looks at Cupp and says "will you stop talking?" or "do you ever stop talking?" and proceeds to educate Cupp that a political party's policies do indeed make up the party's "brand". Barnicle then jumps in to say that what he'd like someone to explain is that if the Republican policies are in tune with the public how did both Romney and Ryan got blown out vote-wise in their hometowns.

It was a wonderful thing to see early on a Thursday morning. Best on-air moment on that show since Mika called Willie an "ass" during the 2008 campaign.

When people like I criticized her lack of experience and that she was unqualified for her job, you branded all of us as misogynists. Whether that was out of confusion, knee-jerk reaction, your own deep-seated misandry, or any other factor is immaterial: you said any criticism of her was misogynist because one man did a misogynist graphic.

During the big S.E. Cupp debate you branded me and every other man in the thread (and practically on DU) as a misogynist because we dared criticize her as unqualified for her job as misogynist.

When I correctly pointed out that the only experience she had in journalism or media was essentially as a file clerk at the New York Times, which did not qualify her as a broadcaster, I was branded a misogynist.

So by that logic we cannot rely on you as the arbiter of misogyny. You see misogyny when it isn't there. You did several times in that big thread, so how can we rely on you as the arbiter of it in here?

Especially since you seem to be relying on mind reading to know that what the poster didn't say here was obviously misogynist.

As I said elsewhere, you declared her off-limits, so you own her now.

Thu Nov 15, 2012, 12:19 PM
Nov 2012

When someone on TV spews to the point of pissing you off one gets the urge to shut them down

Most people who have some factual base for their comments we may accept
and just argue with.

These other people piss you off because of illogic and stupidity
Cupp
Limpballs
Hannity
Beck
Lyin' Ryan
Rove
Palin
Ann Coulter
Joe (when he talks incessantly and interrupts Mika)

The thing is that you never see these people (except for Cupp) on MSNBC
because someone definately would chew them out - maybe to the point of
having to call security.

I see your point but when people lie and twist and spin and spew out propaganda
and (like Cupp) show their illogic I think that we reach a limit where we want to choke
someone.

There are so many conservative women out there who can make better arguments for their conservative philosophy and Cupp is not even close to being among them. She attempts to monopolize that program also.

People get told to shut it, all the time on that show. Male or female. There aren't that many shows where there is actually "debate" with both sides (or three) presented.

But, on those that do have this layout, it happens to men and women all the time.

70. I think that's a valid point. She is enormously annoying and hard to listen to
Thu Nov 15, 2012, 01:07 PM
Nov 2012

-- her voice is somehow extremely grating and off-tone and that's not necessarily her fault, but she uses it poorly, and rarely stops to take a breath. I turned Bill Maher's show off last Friday because she was on and it was hard for Carville and Sullivan to get a word in edgewise or complete a comment. She may have felt at a disadvantage b/c she was the only woman on the show that night but she was still very annoying, not just because she's an apologist for the Republicans.

Having said that, I don't think Deutsche would have said that to another man. And women rarely say that to men. It's just a common put-down of women, so common that I don't think it's even consciously done; it's been a comedy laugh-line forever on innumerable shows, and part of human (not just US) culture.

It happens all the damn time on lots of political talk shows. Had Sippy Cup said that to DD, nobody would be up in arms about it. Why? Because he's a man, and he's expected to take it. If women want an equal playing field with men, then they should be able to take it and well as dish it out. If you can't or won't then get off the damn field. Steele, Russert, Tweety, Schultz and any number of male pundits or journalists have always been thoroughly sliced and diced here.

Sippy Cup is an easy target because she's a buffoon. I would dearly love to see Rachel Maddow slice Sippy to ribbons.

Fri Nov 16, 2012, 02:55 PM
Nov 2012

I didn't see it but I've seen enough of Sarah to know she likes to drone on with stupid and ignore reality and just about everything else that is going on around her to push her point and acts like it is perfectly rationale/reasonable. If that is her job then she does it well and my opinion of MSNBC takes a huge nosedive for bringing onboard a republican nut to say nutty things and have virtually no one ever challenge it. The mere fact that they'd employ her to play that stupid part would be such a disgrace and I can't see any serious person on that network wanting her anywhere near their discussions/show.

I'm not a fan of Michael Steel but at least he acknowledges other people's points/facts/etc he has his own take and will spin/distort some things but Sarah takes that to another level. A level much closer to Fox/limbaugh/beck type reality distortion perhaps not the most extreme ends of them but much closer than other 'republicans' MSNBC has on staff to voice their view of issues.

I've seen Megan McCain, Steve Schmidt, Michael Steele and other republicans with their own views on things and I don't think one of them has said the kinds of stupid crazy crap Sarah has said or been as reliable to say something stupid then smile like an idiot afterwards as almost no one corrects/challenges that stupidity. I don't know if that is out of being dumbfounded that this person has said that, they are directed to not challenge her, or simply see no point in trying to educate stupid. I can empathize with the latter as I simply cannot make myself attempt to educate extreme stupidity born out of delusions of the real world.

I think more likely Donny wouldn't have said that to the other two because they wouldn't be rambling like I've seen Sarah do so many times as she makes her point then smiles like she won or showed up someone.

I think it is sexist to say that the only reason Donny talked to Sarah like that was she is a woman, or to classify her as an easy target because she is a woman. I don't know the reason but I imagine it has to do with how she engages in discussions not because she is a woman. If that wasn't what you were saying, my apologies but that is how it read to me.

I certainly am no fan/defender of Donny I don't know all that much about him but seeing him on TV he can be reasonable on some issues but like many Morning Joe regulars will swing to Joe's conservative narrative or endorse the both sides do it BS.
