I don't have the details because economics is not my forte.

If government does not create jobs, how do they get their jobs?

They work for the government by the grace of the American voters. They have forgotten that fact.

In a pre-ACA conversation I told a group 40 somethings to call and get estimates for private health insurance using 60 as their age and identifying at least two health conditions of their parents as theirs. One told me later that she was shocked at the expense.

6. It's a concept that has been talked about for years, but we all know it would never bear fruit....

Might as well be throwing spears at airplanes...

The ONLY way we are EVER going to get rid of the corruption in Congress is by doing what I have been advocating for years: Vote out EVERY incumbent, start with a whole new fresh batch of legislators, then.... SET TERM LIMITS!!!

It's the only way to keep "career politicians" out of office, where they become so ensconced in their seats that they are easily bought off, bribed, or however you want to phrase it. They become beholden to their corporate masters and don't give a damn about We, the People.. the common folk, the little guys, and gals, that they are supposedly represent.

Don't take me wrong, it's a great idea.. I even said so n a post recently! Something along the lines of 'all new members of congress should be required to work for minimum wage their first year or two, just to see what it's like for us 'common folk'.. we elect far too many millionaires to represent us, people who are so far out of touch with us they don't even have a clue...

Ghost

Unfortunately, only millionaires have the money or the contacts to afford a campaign. That is the problem. Campaign finance reform is the only solution.

8. Yes, Campaign finance reform is the only solution... it should be publicly funded, and split evenly

among those seeking to run in any House, Senate or Presidential election. PBS should be used to give them ALL *EQUAL* air time to lay out their platforms, tell what they stand for, and give the voters a chance to 'get to know' each candidate.

How do we get the ball rolling on this, though? I'm open to thoughts and suggestions

Peace,

Ghost

9. who's going to make them? if there was some power able to make them take minimum wage, the same

power could make them do what it wanted in the first place, without having to go through the intermediary step of paying minimum wage.

such ideas are interesting, but imo a distraction. You make your representatives do what you want through organized power. Organizing is what's needed.
