Just as I predicted, ladies and gentlemen, he said. This election was lost because of your host, Rush Limbaugh. I am the primary reason.
While thats not exactly correct, Limbaugh was in fact the first big target of one of President Barack Obamas principle reelection strategies: winning with women.
...........................
Its a long held addage in American politics that if you cannot win with women, you cannot win at all. And after high profile Republicans made a series of idiotic comments about rape, birth control, abortion and other issues of importance to women, Obama ultimately took 55 percent of the female vote versus Mitt Romneys 44, even though Romney won among Caucasians and married women. As the Gallup polling firm explained, it was the largest gender gap in U.S. electoral history, and its beneficiary was primarily President Obama.

He said Democrats would always come up with some extreme stance that they just can't agree with, and then we'd use that against them.
That's the exact opposite of what has been happening. I've been enjoying this. Democrats can come up with the most mainstream, sensible, and accepted stance on any issue, and Republicans will oppose it on general principle. All Obama had to do was be reasonable, and the GOP would fall all over themselves in a rush to be UN-reasonable.
How do you think they got mired in a war on education, a war on women, and a war on math and science? Just say the sun rises in the east and wait for them to come up with a rebuttal. They did it every time. They made it easy for us.

(6,286 posts)And as for the converse, I don't think it is extreme to shout from the rooftops when a legislator opines about 'legitimate rape', 'forcible rape', et al, especially when it is mentioned in the context of advocating for laws which affect my daughters. I grow weary of Republicans carping and whining that we are making mountains out of molehills here.
It is obvious that this naked move to criminalize abortion is now one of the pillars of the right, and not just a throwaway phrase inserted in their party platform to placate a fringe element of their base. If Republicans don't want to be painted as extreme, they can leave their Bibles at home and govern in a secular manner. Otherwise they can reap the whirlwind.

(3,491 posts)He's the reason I got off my butt and decided to help locally with the Gore campaign. Since then, I've done something to help GOTV in my area in each the Presidential and non-Presidential election years.
I'm not sure how many others were motivated by the right wing entertainment complex to try to defeat it but at least in my case, yes Mr. Limbaugh, you're to blame for the defeat of your party and it's coming extinction.
