http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/6055/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=3914Medicare is the Solution - Not the Problem
Obamas seeking a grand bargain with the Republican-controlled House by January 1, 2013.
The President, in order to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff, is willing to raise Medicares eligibility age from 65 to 67 and to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security by $650 billion. This is no joking matter--these changes would mean life and death to the most vulnerable in our country.
Call and email Congress with these simple demands:
Don't cut Medicare or raise its eligibility age from 65. Don't cut Medicaid. Instead, pass improved Medicare-for-all (HR 676) in order to create a truly universal healthcare system that will also reduce the deficit and save Americans $500 billion a year on healthcare costs.
Don't cut Social Security or raise the retirement age. Instead, save the system by removing the $110,000 income cap on high-earners paying into Social Security.
Join us in sending this message to President Obama and your Congresspeople: Medicare is the solution - not the problem. We need improved Medicare for all NOW!
Tell Congress: We Need Jobs, Not Cuts
http://action.seiu.org/page/s/jobsnotcuts
In the coming weeks, Congress will be making decisions that will have long-term effects on our economy. If our elected representatives act responsibly, they have an opportunity to shrink the economic inequality gap and protect the vital services working families depend on for years to come. We need to make sure they do just that.
Fill in your information to co-sign the following letter.
SEIU members will be hand delivering the signatures Congress later this month.

Election Day was a smashing victory for progressives and middle-class populism. But the deficit hysterics, budget slashers and Social Security haters refuse to heed our voices. We spoke out on Election Day. Now we need to speak out louder than ever. Use the form below to tell your representatives in Congress: No deal that cuts Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. No deal that keeps low tax rates for the rich. No deal that kills jobs with more cuts.

Signed and submitted all three. I am totally against any deals whatsoever. I am totally FOR requiring a deal with Wall Street. That's where all the money went. Main Street bailed them out, now they need to bail out Main Street. I will never forget the day Treasury Secretary Paulson came to Congress demanding the money immediately: September 15, 2008. And he expected us to hand it over to him, no questions asked, pronto! I will never forget that day..

Over the next month and a half, Congress will be playing political football with the programs that hundreds of millions of Americans rely on to live with dignity every day.
Theyre calling this game the Grand Bargain, but we know its more like a Grand Swindle for seniors, people with disabilities, and so many others. Its time for us to act. We need to send Congress a clear message that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid arent just political footballs theyre programs that the American people urgently need.
