Reading about Derrick Belcher, the man who started a petition seeking Alabama’s withdrawal from the U.S. He's a Ron Paul voting "absolute Libertarian" and former owner of a topless car wash.

(For the sheltered among us, that is not a cleaning service for convertibles.)


Remember the old joke that a Conservative is a Liberal who has been mugged, or that a Liberal is a Conservative who has been charged with a crime?


A libertarian is a Republican whose topless car-wash was shut down.

...“I don’t think any one state can stand alone. But if we’ve got 20 of them, then that starts to be something ,” Belcher said. “If you look at a map of the red states, we have all of the oil and we produce all of the food. We’re the ones that are carrying the rest of the nation.”

Secession, he said, would allow Alabama and other states to stop entitlement programs. “The people who want those handouts, it’ll force them to move to a different state,” he said. “It will consolidate working people and that’s how we turn things around.”

Belcher blamed the government for shutting down his former business. Belcher said his Euro Details car wash, which featured topless women, was successful for a decade on Halls Mill Road in Mobile. But he said he was arrested and charged with obscenity by city officials in 2001.

“The government ripped my business away, and now they’re choking America to death with rules and regulations,” he said...

If anyone shut down the topless carwash, it was probably the evangelical hillbillies that were afraid someone might actually get a thrill below the waist. Don't blame that on Democrats.

If I'd have known about it, I'd have probably gone out of my way to get MY car washed there, and I'm as liberal as they come . Though I am one of those godless lesbian heathens that likes thrills below the waist and believes that if the free market means I pay a little bit more for a topless woman to wash my car, she should be able to do so.

1. His state takes in more in federal benefits than it pays out in taxes. The same is true of most of the other states that have expressed an interest in seceding.
2. He's hoping that the poor people who count on federal aid will just leave. What if they don't? What if they riot? What if it turns out that those poor people are the same people who pick your crops, or pump your oil, or mine your coal?
