Am I the only one who think Sen. Kerry being Sec. of Defense or Sec. of State is not a bad thing?

He has excellent qualifications in both areas and will go above and beyond to serve this country and President Obama.

Yes, it would vacate a senate seat in his state, but do you really think Scott Brown could win another election after losing so badly to Elizabeth Warren?

Besides, IMO, he's due. Not only is he qualified, he's earned it.

He's qualified and deserving. And nothing more important except for Presidency and VP. Okay Supreme Court, but that's not going to happen.

John Kerry is a good person and would have been great as President. We have to think first of who replaces his long time Senate seat.

Not that I think Scott Brown can easily win. But these cabinet appointments always seem to present that very danger.

Napolitano gave us that lunatic governor in AZ. Teddy's death gave us Brown. Etc.

Special elections do not bring out the number of voters that a national general election does, and especially not a presidential election. So that danger is always there.

But I would support Kerry being appointed.

Webb will be stepping down as Democratic US Senator from Virginia (Tim Kaine will be his successor), so he would be available as a free agent. And the Democrats would NOT be risking losing the Massachusetts Senate seat again to Scott Brown.

Webb also has experience in Washington as a former Marine/Naval Academy graduate, and a former Sec'y of the Navy under Reagan.

BTW, Webb is the one who defeated George "Macaca" Allen the first time around in 2006.

Others from other threads include Wesley Clark and Susan Rice. Imagine being able to say "Secretary of State Rice" without ing in your mouth!

Did any of us think it would take 4+ years before getting a Democrat back in his seat?

That's a nice floor to start with, depending on whom the Democrats pick for their candidate.

A bit worried about Scott but hope the dems would pick a good candidate.

I think Kerry is ready to be out of the senate or he wouldn't be trying for it so hard. I understand the ones who retired last time…tired of hitting their heads against a repub wall.

We have so many good candidates, I'm sure there is one that could beat Brown and we just beat him. He may be so bloodied up from Liz he'll fold easy.

We've got to work for it and not abandon the seat like we did in New York. Put money in it from the start.

I think he'd be great in either position. I would just hate to have to see another Senate seat contested in MA, especially given that Snott Brown's campaign is set up, and ready to get right back into it. Not so with whatever Dem is chosen to run.

Depending on if they want to push forward with Susan Rice as Sec of State. I am not really worried about the Senate seat. New England just went all Dem with one independent up in Maine in all the national races this year. I could see Deval Patrick run for that seat and win it easily but they would need to replace him as Governor.
