It's good to recall the effect of the Civil War and the Nixon Strategy on southern Party affiliation
Just to remember, the now red states, the old 'solid south' was solidly Democrat right up until Lyndon Johnson and the Civil Rights Act. Sherman marched to the sea and for near a hundred years you could not find a Republican in the deep south. President Johnson was not wrong when he said on signing the bill that he had lost the south for generations. Nixon started the process of Party conversion with his 'southern strategy' which was simply using dog-whistle racism to convert the south from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. The process continued all the way until Bush-II, and now seems to be budging toward reversing itself, primarily under the pressure of increased "minority" participation in the political process.
Boys and girls, let me tell you a laboratory fact; a white rat can not survive in the wild. This thing that calls itself the Republican Party today can not survive.
