Is LINCOLN, a film about a progressive Republican, extra salt in the wounds of the GOP?

Does it hurt them to be reminded after they had their ass handed to them in the election that their first and most admired president was an unabashed PROGRESSIVE who fought a war to preserve the Union against states rights AND to free blacks who voted en masse against Mittsy Rich?

I hope so.

What do you think?

NO--they focus on Lincoln's few racist statements and think he freed the slaves so they would self-deport to Africa and didn't like the welfare-like care masters gave their slaves

Lincoln: movie about a Republican is hated by repigs

2016: movie about a Democrat is beloved by repigs

repigs manufacture so much unintentional irony that if it were a power source, it would rival the sun for output.

A breakdown of box office receipts by region could be quite embarrassing to the Repugs...

Not why the Republicans would dislike that, though.

think the people in the Republican Party today hijacked President Lincoln's Party. You notice many of them are converted white southerners. The Republican Party of 1860 had nothing to do with Dixiecrats or states' rightsmen. They were the Party of Federalists and the Union which included the radical abolitionist who amended the Constitution. They are the ones that set up Federal programs in the South like the Freedman's Bureau and Education. Those Darn Dixiecrats have been resisting ever since they loss. State's Rights went out after 1865.

so is it a surprise they like the history of Lincoln that fits into their very narrow radical view point.

I think Spielberg delayed the opening until after the election because he didn't want to be seen as openly partisan and giving a gift to President Obama. You can not watch the movie without thinking about our first black president.

Really. Despite how so many of us here feel, not EVERYTHING is about political opinion, POTUS, or 'sending a message to the GOP'.

Sometimes a movie is just a movie.
