....According to multiple intelligence sources who have served in Benghazi, there were more than just Libyan militia members who were held and interrogated by CIA contractors at the CIA annex in the days prior to the attack. Other prisoners from additional countries in Africa and the Middle East were brought to this location.
The Libya annex was the largest CIA station in North Africa, and two weeks prior to the attack, the CIA was preparing to shut it down. Most prisoners, according to British and American intelligence sources, had been moved two weeks earlier.
The CIA, though, categorically denied these allegations, saying: The CIA has not had detention authority since January 2009, when Executive Order 13491 was issued. Any suggestion that the agency is still in the detention business is uninformed and baseless.
Broadwells affair with Petraeus was likely known to Holly Petraeus, according to family friends. The FBI reportedly knew about it months beforehand and White House Counterterrorism adviser John Brennan reportedly was aware that there was a relationship as early as the summer of 2011.

(836 posts)I don't know why FOX would be the ones reporting all this, if any of what they are reporting is true.
Isn't Petraus a Republican?
Because this FOX News article makes it sound pretty bad for Petraus.

(1,773 posts)I think the affair began earlier, too,
much earlier, but the date is important, legally.

(836 posts)Maybe that rogue factor is why FOX was all over this story - they knew it was all rogue?
But they want to somehow blame it all on Obama?
I don't know.

(12,769 posts)I don't believe for a minute that Obama would cover up for Petraeus though. That would be quite a hard sell. Looks like they are going after whatever nefarious things the CIA was doing in Benghazi and hoping that Obama can be blamed for them.

I still don't understand why the right is angry about this--this seems to be the kind of thing they'd love.
And I also don't get what the controversy is where Obama should be impeached/resign.

(4,611 posts)people from learning about its clandestine anti-terrorism/detention operations. No wonder Romney ran away from this issue as soon as he started receiving classified briefings. The RWNJs who have been obsessively trying to turn Benghazi into a scandal have now succeeded in proving:
A) The Obama admin is capable of engaging in the same kind of shadowy, hard-ass anti-terrorism activities that right-wingers used to masturbate to during the Dubya years. So much for Obama's "apology tour"
B) The right wing, and particularly Faux, are now traitors for exposing vital anti-terrorism operations for pure, wild-eyed partisan gain. I guess it's only "vital national security" when a Republican does it
