When Hillary Clinton called a very small subset ofTrump supporters "deplorable," she was pilloried by the right and some members of the mainstream press. How dare she imply that some of the people who supported Trump were less than God-fearing, hard-working, patriotic Americans?
After watching these people, this cult, who literally believes Trump has been chosen by God, for the last 6 years, I must say that Hillary was far too diplomatic. These maniacs aren't a basket of deplorables, they are bushels and bushels of despicable, disgusting, hateful, bigoted, misogynistic, racist, violent, idiots. They laugh when their leader makes fun of a woman he was held liable for sexually assaulting, they clap and cheer when he insults women's weight, intelligence, looks, or calls them "nasty." They swallow his lies with gluttonous glee like state fair corndogs.
Nothing Trump does is disqualifying to them; stealing and refusing to return top secret government documents, sexual assault, taking shitloads of money from foreign enemies, lying, cheating, racism, sexism, praising dictators and fascists, xenophobia, cursing, fucking a porn star (while married), fucking a playboy model (while married), dining with literal Nazis, promising to pardon domestic terrorists, insurr-fucking-rection!
These utterly disqualifying and vile characteristics and practices aren't a bug, they are a feature for the guffawing, slack-jawed, idolatry-worshipping, Trump-flag-waving, XXXL MAGA sweat-stained shirt-wearing, imbecilic hypocrites who make up at least 35% of the American electorate.
A basket of deplorables supporting Trump would be somewhat understandable. A deplorable person attracts or molds others of his ilk (look at his fucked up kids and the coterie of con men, leeches, and acolytes who fill his resort), but the sheer number of human garbage that follows this piece of shit and literally prays to their warped version of Jesus for his return indicates a malignant flaw in the American politic. One that may very well metastasize and kill our democracy if we don't fight like hell to prevent Trump's return.

I am terrified of Trump and what his rabid band of violence-prone MAGAts will do if (and for the love of God, when) he loses again. I am more terrified of what will happen if he wins. You should be, too.

And preferably while out playing golf, so it could not be blamed on the stress and agitation during one of his rants.
I can only imagine the conspiracy theories that will abound when he does die. Democrats will be blamed, somehow.

(309 posts)I live in a mostly liberal west-of-Boston area with a sprinkling of conservatives. I pack grocery bags with donated food in the basement of my church, along with a lot of other volunteers. One of them turned out to be a Trumper when the bag-packing conversation turned to the southern border, the child separation policy, etc. She wasn't bothered by it.
Another couple are people I see socially on occasion. They have always opened their home to anyone who needed it, host neighborhood events, and socially are gracious, generous people. I drive up to their house for some kind of event and there it is--the Trump sign in the yard. Two cases of people who to all appearances are kind and decent but who you know were going to vote for Mango Mussolini. Go figure.

At that time, my husband and I were checking out an exercise class at a local gym. One of the participants was a woman wearing a T shirt that said "Adorable Deplorable." We decided not to sign up for that class.

Know your enemy. This is who they are and they've always been with us and they'll always be with us. They're why the power of the government was limited by the Bill of Rights, the founders knew those assholes would try to take over.

(4,741 posts)They are 100% real, and everything they do can be backed up by the book christians follow. I've read the thing. I know they're in line with it--why don't you?
Never mind. By saying that they're "pseudo," you're implying that they're not christian, because, well, I suppose in your view only non-christians can be so evil and immoral as to do the things these scumbags do.
I have news for you: We non-christians have far better things to do than pretend to belong to that religion, just to--what? Make christians look bad? Guess what? christians do a perfectly fine job making the religion look bad all on their own--and have since their founding.
Given their very long history of barbarity, it's so stupid and hateful to fling around the "pseudo" label that it's deplorable--and I use that word intentionally, to get through to you the very real evil you do when you make that claim about christians being "pseudo." That's the sort of thing that has gotten christians torturing and killing other people in the past, you know. Just what do you think the Inquisition was about, anyway? The entire thing was a violent outburst after christians got their knickers in a twist thinking converts to their religion were "fake" christians! Tens, if not hundreds, of thousands were rendered lame or bloody well D-E-A-D over that stupid accusation.
Did that occur to you? Ever?
christians do not have a stranglehold on being good or moral, so it's utter rot to make the outrageous "pseudo" claim about them when they behave badly. They can be bad or immoral or make the religion look bad, but "fake" or "pseudo?" Nope. Will not fly.
BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FAKE.
Not in the bloody least.

(7,842 posts)with people who still support TFG. They may seem nice, may seem a lot like others, may have 'reasons' or justifications why they support him, but...
...At this point, being ignorant or unaware of who he is would be uncommon. I don't know what draws people to him...but the possible reasons for supporting, voting for, empowering, or celebrating someone who is objectively one of the worst persons imaginable reveals something about the supporter and I can't think of a positive personality trait that justifies the admiration.

(1,689 posts)The goal is to end Federalism and uniform governance of law across the states by the central government.
They can't dependably win presidential elections, so they push for greater authority moving to states with Red clusters. In that way the landscape controlled by radical conservatives (sadly often religious) is increased and there may even be havens of anti-federalists created.
Leonard Leo and the Federalists have been pushing for life-time appointments of radical religious conservatives for decades. As can be seen, they now have achieved critical mass that has a 'special' judge for every progressive "insult" to their beliefs. It's not by accident that SCOTUS has drifted into being 66% Catholic in a nation where only 22% of the population is Catholic.
We're in for many more decisions that put "God's Rightfully Conservative Law" above the mere Law of the Land.

(4,741 posts)Has no idea who the Federalist Society are, never mind what they're after.
They care about sticking it to all of the people they hate, the ones they think are taking "everything" away from them.
That is all they care about.
And they aren't nice people to others. They're nice if they think you're enough like them. If they learn you deviate from what they "expect" you to be in the slightest, they hate you then and there, and will be out to do you active harm over it.

(2,289 posts)..will be the apocalypse if Congress is Republican controlled. I actually believe the vast majority of Republican politicians privately hoped Trump's coup attempt would succeed, regardless what they said. The Senate had two opportunities to shut him down and didn't. What other conclusion can one draw?
If he is the Republican candidate and loses the general, he'll say the election was rigged and start a replay of the post 2020 election shit show circus. But I don't believe that will turn out the same way...the courts and voters will be less tolerant of rigged election claims again. And I'm not so sure he can assemble another crowd willing to storm the Capitol with so many of the 2021 insurrectionists in prison or on the way.
My greatest fear is the effectiveness of the Republicans in suppressing the vote in the states they control or hatching some plan to actually rig the election.
And all this assumes Trump will be a candidate in November 2024. I personally think he's going to be in jail.
