Guns don't kill people

My response to a right-winger saying it isn't the guns.

That assault rifle in Allen, Texas killed 8 people and critically wounded another 7 in less than 3 minutes. If we didn't allow people to buy weapons of war and stockpile thousands of rounds of ammunition, lock and load 30-to-45-round magazines, and fulfill their sick neo-Nazi fantasies by slaughtering innocent people at a mall, including those sweet babies in the picture, while we bemoan the "lone-wolf-crazy-bad-guy-with-gun" and send useless thoughts and prayers it would be much more difficult for "mentally ill," (I assume you include white supremacy, misogyny, Neo-Nazis, and racism as categories of mental illness because Mauricio was into all those things) madmen to do this...every day...In America.

No other country in the world has anywhere near the number of mass shootings than we do in America. Not one. There have been 199 mass shootings in America in 2023 alone. Today is the 129th day of the year. That is more than one every day. The rest of the world has mentally ill people. They just don't arm them with high-capacity killing machines with fewer and fewer restrictions like we do here in 'Murica! Australia had one mass school shooting in 1996 and then promptly banned the type of weapon the mass murderer used. They haven't had one since. America has a school shooting every few weeks. And we do nothing because innocent children's lives are not as important as the unfettered right to worship guns.

Let me ask you something. I assume you are a Second Amendment supporter. Do you think we should limit any type of "arm" that Americans should be able to bear? Should the craziest person in your community be able to buy a fragmentation grenade, surface-to-air missile, M61 Vulcan machine gun, bomb drones, bio-weapons, or nukes? Because all of those are "arms" and, according to you,the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed (forget that well-regulated militia part). Should guns be allowed at Trump rallies and the NRA convention (they aren't). I will believe Republican politicians believe that the right to bear arms is absolute when they allow them into their workplaces with no restrictions the way they allow them at malls, movie theaters, grocery stores, parks, and public streets.

The next mass shooter is planning a massacre right now. He is assisted in gaining the tools he will use to slaughter as many people as possible by people who make inane arguments and laws that put the blame on everything but the gun of choice of mass murderers.

2. The scariest part of the whole is the image of the dead shooter...

He still had at least 5 full magazines in the front of his vest.

If the police officer hadn't been onsite for another call, who knows how many people would be dead.

8 dead in 3 minutes - maybe from the first or second magazine, 5 magazines remaining. Now imagine if he had 2 or 3 comrades with him and were coordinating their efforts.

It doesn't take long to imagine how things can go from awful to completely fucking awful.

3. He probably didn't have to reload

Those magazines carry 30 to 45 rounds. He killed eight, and wounded seven. 15 rounds could have resulted in that carnage. He may not have even fired all the rounds from the first magazine...and he was carrying five more fully loaded magazines.

4. Those "tactical" vests need to be monitored, along with the military-styled guns and spare ammo.

The guns, the clothing items, and the multiple spare magazines are part of the same deranged killing fantasies. Over and over again.

Just because I agree that a person who is habitually losing his drivers license for drunk driving doesn't mean I think all drivers should lose their licenses. I am more than happy to relinquish a few driving privileges to keep maniacs off the streets.
We have reached a point of epidemic shootings and we can all chip in by subjecting ourselves to limits of gun sales and ownership. IF WE ARE A RATIONAL COUNTRY.
Support your local gun laws! (And we need a lot MORE of them)
