(35,980 posts)I'm going to take a break from Season 2 of Doctor Who tonight and watch it until it bores me. I think it's on all free to air channels tonight, so I've got a choice of which channel to watch. I'm mainly there for those awkward moments like where the commentators don't recognise a PM, or everyone notices that Harry's stuck way up the back with Andrew, or that moment when Fergie sneaks in when everyone's busy gasping over Meghan's latest boring hairstyle...

(16,590 posts)Not in "real" time; I'm recording it (MSNBC), since the coverage starts at 4am here. But I am looking forward to sitting down to watch at a time that's more compatible with my time zone.

(3,617 posts)Im wondering if anyone there realizes how silly it all looks to some Americans. Besides. Didnt we fight and win a war to be free of that kind of thinking?

(115,927 posts)I don't care about the royal family's ongoing soap opera, but I am interested in watching major events. And the Brits always have excellent music when they put on one of their shows. And it's worth it for the hats. They always go all out with the hats.

(23,766 posts)I was watching it because it is history and also because I am a liturgist and that liturgy last night was beautiful

(17,342 posts)Actually I'll be driving to a lunch party when it goes on.
It's 11:15A here so 10:15 in London. And we're having lunch with other Americans.

They are like a more proper, educated version of the Kardashians. Won't waste my time watching any of it.

(38,021 posts)Watching for the same reason I watched the Queen's funeral, we won't see anything like this again. I honestly don't think there will be a monarchy in England for much longer.

(102,471 posts)and there is something about choirs echoing in these cavernous cathedrals. On that score, even the non-religious would come to Notre Dame in Paris before the fire to hear that, myself included.
For me, it is not about Charles or the royal combatants of late or Royalty in general, and certainly not for the religious nature of the ceremony. But, as a history buff, that so much of this dates back to 1066 and the time of William the Conquerer, I can't help but be curious. The whole system may be eliminated in the not-distant future. But, it is part of history until then. But, for those who chose not to, more power to you.
