A few facts for the Tennessee knuckledraggers who proclaimed April "Confederate History Month":

* The Civil War was NOT the "northern war of aggression". It was an INSURRECTION seeking to destroy the duly authorized government of the United States of America.

* Those who fought for or supported the "Confederate States if America" were TRAITORS. If Lincoln had imposed on them the penalty Trump says should apply, they'd have all been EXECUTED!

* That "Stars and Bars" flag you worship is what decent folks call the "Dixie Swastika". The real "Confederate flag" was solid white----they SURRENDERED after they got their butts whupped.

So, go ahead: "study" your history as it really took place.

Y'all sure as shit got nothin' to be proud of!

Are they going to honor the Tennessee units in the Union Army?
Lots of Tennessee natives fought for the union, and lots decided not to fight at all. Just because Forrest came from Tennessee don't mean a spot. It just means there were plenty of privileged, racist white men of means giving Tennessee a bad name.

My understanding is that eastern Tennessee didn't really care for the plantation owners and a lot of them didn't want to die for slavery..

They said that most of the Black slaves looked scared, exhausted, and emaciated, with many scars, bravely limping through their heavy work loads. But they also mentioned how tired and sad and underfed many of the poorer white people looked. Ulysses S. Grant mentioned in his memoirs that the lower-ranking Confederate soldiers, who were mostly poor whites, seemed to have good work skills but extremely poor tools to work with, and very poor directions from their rich slave-owner commanders. Having grown up in a rural working-class family himself, Ulysses S. Grant had grown up doing hard, dirty, difficult, skilled work, with everybody around him doing the same, so he knew what he was talking about. A few years ago, I read a book about the economy of slavery, and it mentioned that the rich slaveowners wielded too much power in the decisions about which tools were sent to stores in the Old South, dictating dogmatically about tools when they knew nothing worth mentioning about working with tools. The technical experts consulted for the book said that, yes, most of the tools sold in the South were generally not as good as most of the tools sold in the North. It had apparently been very difficult to obtain good-quality tools in the Old South. The conceited plantation owners thought they knew better than everybody about everything, especially the things about which they knew almost nothing. The book also said the the banking system had been heavily slanted to favor the rich. Apparently they operated like the rich aristocrats in medieval Europe, demanding loyalty, obedience, and veneration from everyone else.

Yes, Tennessee joined the confederacy but it was the last state to do so and the first state to rejoin the union. The state itself was pretty evenly split on the issue of secession and abolition. Much of eastern TN were strong supporters of the union. There were Tennessee troops on both sides of the war and, in some cases, quite literally fought brother against brother.
Personally, I believe all that "heritage not hate" crap is a front for their craven racism. They want to live in a world where the white, Protestant, men rule over society and women and minorities are expected to show fealty. Any action that bucks that deeply engrained belief is sure to set these types off, thus their overreaction to protests at the state capitol and their actions against the TN three.
