He or she will be endlessly compared to Barack Obama and he or she will almost always come up short!
I also feel badly for the Obama daughters; Malia and Sasha. Their success will always be measured against their Mom and Dad's.....poor babies. Hopefully having the everlasting love and pride of their parents will be enough for them.

(16,916 posts)Washington will always be known as the First President, and every civics and history text book from 2008 going forward will note Barack Obama as the first Black President (more so now that he has been twice elected). In their own way, these two men will always be the standard by which all who follow are measured.
The same will happen for women when Hillary is elected in 2016
That's actually some very heavy fucking responsibility, right?
It makes me wonder what future myths will spring up around Obama, they way they sprang up around Washington? What will be the Obama cherry tree story?
I bet it will have something to do with his birth certificate, but in a positive way. Some story about how he stood up bigots and racists, and proved you didn't have to be born white to grow up to be the President...

(53,410 posts)Because if President Obama goes down in history as a great President then everyone who becomes President, regardless of their race or gender will be compared to him because of his greatness, not his race.

(10,942 posts)There were some impressively bright and organized young people in that office listening to the President, regardless of whether were "traditional" or not. The same can be said about Obama field offices. We are in good hands with those people as long as they keep their values clearly in sight and don't become corrupted. The Obama daughters are going to be ok, they are bright children that have involved parents, the parent advantage is an enormously one even if they were not children of the President and First Lady.

(8,911 posts)The man won a landslide twice. Now when someone of a minority ethnicity or group runs it will not be an "issue" if they can win like Obama had to deal with. It is hardest to be out front. He has paved a way for the future.
