Hot damn, ladies and friends of ladies - Look What Happens - When "Sluts" Vote

Hot damn, ladies and friends of ladies. Look at what we did this week:

?1350670955

We delivered a second term for President Barack Obama;

We not only kept control of the Senate, but increased our numbers;

We are sending more women to Congress than ever before;

We shrank the rape caucus, including Todd "legitimate rape" Akin and Richard "rape babies are intended by God" Mourdock; and

We showed that the gender gap is real, it's big, and it's not to be taken lightly or for granted—by either party.

In other words, we kicked ass.

These self identified "sluts" helped save our asses, along with the rest of the country.
They are not afraid to stand up, call things as they are, instead of restricting actions and speech and misdirecting from the problems that face us. They are not ashamed to be real adult, confident women, the equal to any man anywhere.

In other words these "sluts" are acting as the equals, or better, that they are, to anyone that thinks they want to put them down. They are not in any sense a 'woe is me, weak woman that needs special rules, to be protected from the real world.' They are taking responsibility for their own lives on the front lines.
Banning words is not only counter productive, but does nothing towards remedying the problem.

BTY, I like strong, confident women. I have a problem with arrogant people in general. There is a big difference between confident and arrogant.

Why bring it back? Why would women want to 'own' a term that shouldn't be used to begin with?

we can never own the word as long as men use sex to demean and degrade, on both side of the political. as madrast says, my sexuality is no ones concerns. i can actually address issues without resorting to sexuality.

Women, overall, voted 56 to 43 percent for Obama; men voted 49 to 48 percent for him.

Ladies, Peter Morrison of Texas called us "maggots." Makes one wonder whether this name constitutes some step up in sexist talk from "slut." My take is that a dying political body is always afraid of "maggots."

My favorite quote from the article:

"...Let's give ourselves a round of applause for sending the strongest of messages to the Republican Party: No, you can't take away our health care, oppose equal pay, tell us rape is a gift, and then dismiss our anger as a "distraction" from what really matters, according to the party of old white men who think the problem is that we ladies get to vote at all.

So yes, let's be happy about this week. And then let's get back to work, because we still have a war to win."

Somehow unmarried women who use birth control are "sluts", according to Rush and his fans. I think it's a bit of irony in the idea of embracing the label "slut", based on some sexist asshole's ridiculous, lopsided standards.

Although I think it's not a flattering word. But if being an unmarried woman who uses contraception makes me a "slut", well, then I guess I am one! Stupid fucking Rush Limbaugh. I guess we're all sluts, then!

For me, it's the irony in this particular case that I enjoy. A rose by any other name smells as sweet.

I, for one, want nothing to do with that label.

"Taking back" offensive language is not one of my hobbies.

My humanity and worth are unrelated to my sexuality. My sexuality is nobody's fucking business.

I give thanks to all the WOMEN who voted for Obama, regardless of the labels they want to embrace (or not).

I give thanks to all the beautiful PEOPLE who voted for Obama, regardless of gender, race, orientation, or any other divisive label.

I reject the label because it is used to demonize women based on their sexuality.

I'm sick of people using women's sexuality as a way to discredit, divide, or shame us into silence.

And I'm also sick of the collateral damage: Those girls who get the idea that they're already free to own their sexuality, and find out that societally speaking, we're actually not there yet. We are, in fact, still quite far away.
