The icing on the Election Cake: The defeat of the loathsome Allen West.

Only Michele Bachman's defeat could have possibly topped West's.

I can't wait until his concession speech, which I imagine will be historically ungracious and angry.

Have some bitter tea, Mr. West and unhappy trails to you as you slump off into the sunset.

Sadly, Minnesotans couldn't rid themselves of Bachmann.

The totals fell outside the margin for a mandatory recount. Now it is possible he could not concede and pay for his own recounts in the 3 counties that his district covered. But I'm not sure he has the $.

Murphy wins; West supporters skeptical

By Christine Stapleton

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

At 4:45 a.m. today, after 21-hours of non-stop ballot copying and counting, Democratic candidate Patrick Murphy defeated Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West for the District 18 congressional seat.

The final tally — still considered unofficial — put Murphy ahead of West by 2,429 votes. Overall, Murphy captured 166,799 votes to West’s 164,370 in District 18, which spans portions of Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties. An automatic recount is triggered by a margin of 0.5 percent. Murphy’s lead gives him a .7 percent advantage. All ballots in Martin and St. Lucie counties have been counted.

Snip.............

West’s supporters were far from ready to put the election behind them. Throughout the night more than dozen West supporters remained at the supervisor’s tabulation center in Riviera Beach waiting for the final results.

“I completely disagree with everything Mr. Murphy’s representatives are saying,” said Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, a Boca Raton lawyer volunteering for the West campaign. “I think it would be a serious mistake and it would be unfair to the voters to presume anything at this unfinished stage.”

Allen West Wins Congressional Race: Report

Florida congressman Allen West has won his re-election bid by a narrow enough margin to prompt a full recount, according to sources within the Republican’s ranks.

“Boots on the ground update from the Allen West election count via Gary Angelo Galiano: ‘We win by 195,’” Congresman West supporter Gary Angelo Galiano posted on his Facebook account early Saturday morning.
