What a difference an election makes! They led the story with the shocking statistic that 49% of Americans are on some type of government assistance. Of course they didn't tell us how many were on which assistance and I'm sure they included retired folks on Social Security. So then Huckabee comes on and says well, some of those people, "the majority" really NEED the help, and only a few are taking advantage of the system. And we need to look back to the 90s when welfare reform really worked. (I would disagree with him on that point but that's a whole nuther thread.)
Now just imagine if that had been the talking point during the campaign from the right. Instead of disenfranchising 47% of Americas by calling them 'victims', how about actually admitting they really NEED the help they receive from the tax payers. We may be looking at a different outcome today.
