Robert Murray that POS from the Utah mine collapse? He laid off 150 with a prayer because Obama won

Coal executive explains layoffs with prayer lamenting Romney loss

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-robert-murray-layoff-prayer-20121109,0,1733895.story

Citing what he perceives as an Obama administration “war on coal,” an Ohio coal mining executive and prominent Republican donor responded to the results of the presidential election by laying off more than 150 workers.

Robert Murray, chief executive of Murray Energy Co., the largest privately held coal company in America, blamed the layoffs on President Obama -- and, by extension, the voters who elected him -- in a memo to employees.

“The American people have made their choice,” Murray said in what he called a prayer that he delivered at a staff meeting at which he discussed the layoffs. The prayer was first made public by the Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register. “We are a country in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.... The takers outvoted the producers.”

“Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us to build,” Murray said in the prayer, which he delivered to about 50 staff members in a private meeting Wednesday afternoon.

That is his smokescreen to feed the mantra that Obama is responsible for massive layoffs due to regulations, the ACA, etc.

In fact, coal companies across the nation are being hurt because of the resurgence of the natural gas industry. With the specious practice of "fracking", the ng industry has significantly increased supply and therefore dropped the price of ng. That has suppressed not only the market for coal but also the price. NG burns, for the most part, cleaner than coal.

So his real reasons are a direct result of capitalism, the Ayn Rand principle of "survival of the fittest" between ng and coal. Coal, at least for now, is the loser in this game. If "fracking" continues to be used, despite its seeming significant damage to the water table not to mention possibility of triggering small earthquakes, this trend will continue.

They should be able to get government financed training and be ready for work in the infrastructure industry that will hit in about 8 months.

Don't make him a good guy, necessasarily..... But I think he's in love with coal, and takes it personally when alternatives are sought.
