(Yes I know this is a Daily Caller story, but I found this from this black blogger who's not a conservative, and Daily Caller is the only outlet reporting on the former Democratic US rep's comments.)
In an post-election interview, the four-term former Democratic representative who seconded the official nomination of Barack Obama in 2008 and went on to speak at the 2012 Republican National Convention told The Daily Caller that Romneys single-minded focus on the economy was a big factor in his loss on Election Day.
The problem with the message that was focused exclusively on the economy is that economic numbers change, he said. And you saw that, over the course of the campaign, it was not uncommon back in January and February for Romney and other Republicans to describe the economy as the worst economy that we had had in fill in the blank, some would say a generation, some would say since the depression. As the year progressed, even though the rate of job growth was tepid by historic standards, you saw measurable movement in consumer confidence over the course of this year.

Does this Davis guy have ANY principles to stand on? From being a Blue Dog Democrat to a Republican and now admitting that the Republicans will never win among black voters and should just give up already?

(3,888 posts)to "win over". The approach is too insincere.
If any political party truly wants to win over voters they ought to offer programs and policies that benefit voters. All voters or most anyway. Not just old white voters, or black voters, or Asian voters or Latino voters, or just the rich, or the poor, but voters, as broad a spectrum of the people as possible. Then offer government that benefits all or most of the citizens.
That is how to attract voters.
Think the republicans will try that strategy?

(50,561 posts)Romney didn't focus only on the economy, unless you want to call repealing Obamacare an economic issue. Romney portrayed repeal as a cure for everything including foot fungus.
Romney's biggest problem is he was going to attack a problem Obama is solving - the economy - with the programs and policies that caused it in the first place. Romney liked to talk about Greece a lot...well, Greece's problem is their repeated attempts to fix an economic disaster caused by austerity with more austerity - so much austerity, in fact, the citizenry has stopped paying taxes. So what does Romney want to do to fix America's austerity program? The same as Greece, but with permission granted to stop paying taxes.
Insanity is defined as any Republican economic policy.
