General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe need a running list of businesses closing or going after workers because of Obama's win.
Can everyone catalog them in this one thread? Then we can bookmark it and if possible use this thread as a reference to start our own counter campaign against these UnAmerican businesses. I wouldn't mind starting a Facebook page to start it off but we need more than just internet presence so maybe as we find this list growing larger and larger (and by the offhand accounts I have read, it's going to grow) we can convince a group like MoveOn.org to help us create ads and take these companies on. If we don't the GOP will most definitely use the behavior of their friends as "proof" that Obama is hurting the economy and costing us jobs.
Thanks!

(18,672 posts)that a lot of these businesses were planning layoffs before Obama was re-elected, but they want to kill two birds with one stone. My job is in trouble and it was in trouble long before the election. Greed knows no bounds, and if corporations can squeeze out a dollar for themselves by using cheap labor in India, they will do it. Still, I would love to have a list of those businesses who "claim" they are laying off workers because of Obama (they are lying, they were planning to do this anyway). I will never spend a single dime at any of these places. Papa John's? Dead to me.

(5,405 posts)if they want to use their layoffs as a way to take shots at our President and attack our party as well as our personal choice to vote for who we want then they should be open for public condemnation and shaming.

The Blaze is Glenn Beck's site.
Consider the source.

(51,001 posts)the source. I indicated that one can't be sure any of the companies noted are laying off due to the election. But, Beck appears to insinuate that this is so.

(8,377 posts)No legitimate business person would make a decision on that basis. If Obama we nationalizing industries. radically changing tax policy, implementing a police state, etc, then of course, that could affect business. But he isn't doing anything like that. I mean we're talking about 3 stinking percent on the top PERSONAL tax rate and no changes on business taxes at this point. Obama has talked about LOWERING tax rates on businesses while eliminating some abusive deductions. He has never talked about raising any business taxes except on companies that outsource jobs.
MessiahRp
(5,405 posts)Not all obviously would be doing it because of Obama but if they use him as a reason, they are ripe for rebuke. And they're not talking about the personal tax rate. They're claiming Obamacare will cost them too much. They're helping the GOP spread lies about Obama's signature achievement to help take down Dems in '14 and '16 and make his agenda attempts ineffectual.

Has alluded in interviews that if he is reelected he will need to reduce employees hours to be able to affrod health care for other full timers...

in fact, you frequently hear of right wing attempts to boycott the company because of its support for the LGBT community

(50,561 posts)And as for them having to reduce hours to pay for health insurance for fulltimers...don't believe it. Home Depot offers health insurance to both full time and part time workers after 90 days.
There are two benefits books, one for PT, the other FT. The health insurance offered to PT is good, but the FT insurance also covers things like vasectomies. PT employees can get dental and vision coverage, but FT employees can also choose to cover family members, same sex domestic partners...they have pet insurance and a bunch of other stuff (the FT book is about an inch thick) available for FTers...I swear, if teabaggers knew how well that company takes care of its workers they'd never go back.

I own a small business and completely avoid Facebook as a result. All you can do is piss off potential customers by posting there regardless of how many might agree with you. I might have idiots for Facebook friends(and unfortunately there is some family that fills that bill) but their money is just as green as anyone else's.
It's funny to me when they come in my place of business. I listen to their rants about Obama and "libruls", agree with them, then tell my staff what dumbasses they are after they leave. I'm so thankful that we've had the good fortune to hire Dems. We had one from the other side once and she was such a pain in the ass.

(5,528 posts)Quite frankly, these people have a fundamentally warped sense of business.
They seem to believe that they create their own marketplace and that employees are at their whim.
Here's a memo for them; demand creates the marketplace and they are merely seeking to fill that demand. If they don't fill it, someone else will.
The next time someone tells you they are firing employees because of politics, just tell them not to forget the bow. They are giftwrapping their market share and handing it to their competitors. People will still find a place to buy a pizza even if you are too cheap to hire people to deliver yours. People will still find a place to eat a chicken sandwich even if you make yourself too nauseating an establishment to eat in.
If you don't want to fill the demand, crawl back under your rock and let someone else who actually understands business take over.

(3,891 posts)Here are the companies that have already said they're laying off.
Welch Allyn 275 layoffs
Dana Holding Corp. Unknown total, but a good portion of their 25,500 Worldwide
Stryker 1,170 positions at the last estimate.
Boston Scientific Between 1,200 and 1,400 positions eliminated
Medtronic 500 already eliminated, with another 500 slated for 2013
But that's not all.
Smith & Nephew - 770 layoffs
Abbott Labs - 700 layoffs
Covidien - 595 layoffs
Kinetic Concepts - 427 layoffs
St. Jude Medical - 300 layoffs
Hill Rom - 200 layoffs
Now, the questions is, what can we do to prevent it or minimize the impact of it. That I don't see as clearly as I understand their plan hatched months ago as an insurance policy in case Robme lost.
MessiahRp
(5,405 posts)Companies just laying off employees doesn't quite qualify since they could be doing that regardless of Obama's election status or Obamacare.
Savannahmann
(3,891 posts)So even if they "claim" it is due to the economy, with unemployment falling, at the last report 7.9%, we know the economy is improving. So the only other reason they would lay off, and a vast majority have said it was because Obama was re-elected.
BTW Sorry it took so long to answer, I was working last night, but who knows how long that problem will stay around with the Plutocrats busy trying to destroy the economy, and the nation.

The web sight has a Teapublican feel to it.
I could not find a lot of information about the author, Michael Snider.
I did track down one company mentioned in another of his articles. Boston Scientific.

This sounds more like a move to me.
In typical disreputable Teablican fashion, if a business lays of 100 people at location A, and then hires 200 people at location B, this would be counted as 100 jobs lost because of Obama.
Not that Teapublicans would ever stretch the truth to make Obama look bad. Right!
