And Are "Oriented Toward Work"

He's not even trying to hide the racism anymore - nor is the rest of the GOP with their new "takers"/updated welfare queens meme.
Looks like they're digging further into the hole of irrelevancy on demographics.
Please, proceed, Republicans, on your way to oblivion.

LIMBAUGH: But the Republicans get a large part of the Cuban vote, particularly South Florida, already. And it's oriented -- I can't win here, I just can't win. It's oriented -- the reason that the Cubans are not that popular, of the Hispanic divisions you've talked about -- it's a race thing.
CALLER: Yes, it is.
LIMBAUGH: It's a race thing. They're just not quite dark -- as dark, and they're oriented toward work.

and someone needs to inform the fat bastard that Obama won a record share the Cuban vote this time round, 47 percent to Mitt's 50.

(144 posts)There is a divide between Cubans and other Latinos that definitely shows up politically. Look, Cubans fled when Fidel Castro went to a more socialized way of life. The ones who had money took it and fled. The Republican ideals of capitalism and free enterprise appeal to Cubans, which is why many of them do vote Republican. However, a generational divide now exists within the Cuban population. Older Cubans vote more Republican while younger Cubans are leaning more Democratic. Cubans, however have historically voted more Republican. The other Latino groups are definitely trending more Democratic. As someone who is Black and Puerto Rican (along with Scottish, Irish, and a couple other things...yeah I'm just a mutt) I can tell you that Latino support for Democrats is here to stay for quite some time.
This is another thing I think that Republicans are going to miscalculate by putting their Latino poster boy Marco Rubio up. They are going to make the same miscalculation that John McCain made in 2008 by picking Sarah Palin; as if the fact that she had a vagina was good enough to peel off a significant amount of Hillary supporters. Just like Blacks didn't support Alan Keyes when he ran for President, nor got behind Al Sharpton, Latinos are not going to get behind Marco Rubio and all his conservativeness.

(60,010 posts)Didja notice all the mass deportation crap was happening in the last couple of years, trying to intimidate the Latino voters.
But the numbers are real, here to stay, and old rich white men can't buy elections, looks like.
I want to thank Rush for turning out the Dem. vote, tho.

(3,682 posts)Tell that to my Mexican, Honduran, and Peruvian friends who have started their own thriving businesses, the Mexican women I have worked with who bust their a**es, the Guatamalans I know putting themselves through college...
I gotta say, I know a fair amount of Latinos and none of them are saggy, swivel-chair dwelling neanderthals who make their livings bellowing incoherently into a microphone.
What an ignorant ass.

(2,800 posts)The older guys who left Cuba because of Castro are some of the most right-wing people on the planet.
Heck, there were five guys involved in the Watergate break-in. Three of them were Cubans. They thought they were looking for information that would tie Castro to the McGovern campaign.
Five men, one of whom said he is a former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency, were arrested at 2:30 a.m. yesterday in what authorities described as an elaborate plot to bug the offices of the Democratic National Committee here.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/longterm/watergate/articles/061872-1.htm
Three of the men were native-born Cubans and another was said to have trained Cuban exiles for guerrilla activity after the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.
The right wing Cubanos aren't loved by their more left leaning neighbors. Skin color my ass.

(5,105 posts)Many Americans, and all repigs, would be shocked that Cubanos, like most in countries populated by Hispano/Chicano/Latino peoples, aren't so stupid that they go around deciding the worth of others by skin color. Basically, who cares, other than stupid Americans*, who came up with the false "classification" of "race," a stupid construct intended to keep people separated and distrusting of each other?
Here's a historical fact: when Italian, and then Irish, people began coming to America, the KKK was founded, as a "christian" organization, intending to stop the Pope's influence. Later, during wars targeting Mexico, many Irish immigrants, forced to become soldiers for the USA, defected to that country, since they were treated so horribly by the American government.
One more historical fact: The reason there are Baptists and Southern Baptists is because the southern ones supported slavery, while the rest did not. So they broke off from the rest. FACT.

(8,224 posts)They are not popular, but for other reasons. I think the biggest reason is the preferential treatment we have given Cubans on immigration issues for the last 50 years, however there are other cultural factors.
I worked in one restaurant pretty much staffed by Hispanics and African Americans, with some token whites (me and a few others). The Hispanics in the place came from all over the place, Mexico, Central America, South America, Puerto Rico, and they all got along great, but they would not hire Cubans. I have taken 5 years of spanish instruction, I am not fluent as a speaker, but pretty good as a listener. They would say some pretty unmentionable stuff about Cubans...
