Thank you Todd Akin!

I live and work in Missouri. Because of what you said back in August a few of my female coworkers registered to vote at that time. Yesterday, they voted for the first time. One, in her late forties, stated that she finally had enough and that it was time to "shut him and the others down." She had pictures taken with her "I Voted" sticker on and refused to take the sticker off, even when management told her to do so. She stated that she never realized how much power she really had until she voted yesterday.

Because of you, Todd Akin, we Missouri women are fired up and still angry. The women I work with, mostly sporadic voters at best, are planning on getting out to vote in the next election, no matter what is on the ballot. And a couple have stated that they plan on volunteering for the next round of elections with the hope of taking back the House.

Thank you Todd, for making women in Missouri realize that yes, they do have a voice and a vote, and that they now know how to use it. Though my state voted for Romney the tide is turning. A number of Republican women crossed party lines to vote against you and once they look further into the candidates they will keep voting against the party until they are no longer a member.

Thank you Todd, for assisting in the beginning of the end of the madness of the right wing of the Republican Party. People like you guarantee that either the party move to the center or cease to exist on a major level.

He's done. No one will ever fund another one of his campaigns again.

Of course, if you can find someone Todd I'd be glad to throw you another primary vote.

(yep, I'll admit it now-I crossed party lines in the primary specifically to vote for him. I thought he was Claire's best chance of winning, long before the infamous comments.)

17. One shouldn't underestimate the contemporary GOP primary voter

Put a crazy nutbag in the mix and they'll be nominated every time, even if the primary "win" is a only a plurality of total votes. Claire's very successful strategy of enabling Akin's nomination (setting him up for the kill) could well be a model for future Democratic wins in states considered marginal for a general election victory. The "whackadoodle" record for Senate victories since 2010, in states where the GOP should have had an easy pickupbut still lost -- stands at 0-for-5. For future reference, why stand in their way?

He was hated even by his own party here in Missouri.

Then again, if he ever runs in a primary again and I can vote for him, I will. I crossed lines last primary to do just that. Claire's camp wanted him to win the primary and this was long before the rape comments. He was the easiest target out of those who ran. Her strategy-get Dems to vote for him in the primary, all while targeting commercials directly at him during the primaries that referred to him as "too conservative for Missouri" were a stroke of genius. And it's a strategy that should be repeated over and over again.

I knew he was helping the Dems, big time. I salute him for standing up for his fucked up principles!

"He's possibly the most honest Republican in America right now. At least he says what he really thinks."

every time I see a picture of him and realize he'll probably be returning home soon-for good. I'll have to reside in the same state as him and that's just a bit creepy.

Someone complained stating it isn't part of the uniform. The complaint was from someone who wanted to wear her Romney button.

He did a lot to energize voters. I was talking with a fellow Democrat before the election at work and while we understood the GOP's desire to win and their dislike of Claire McCaskill (it's politics after all). Neither of us could understand anyone from any party putting an Akin yard sign up and associating themselves with such an ill-informed, arrogant, sexist, reprehensible excuse for a human being.

13. The real victory from the Akin-Mourdock revelations will be more women candidates

Just as women were drawn to vote like never before in American politics, so now expect another effect in the near future, more women in elected office and important public service positions.

The number of female students I've heard talk about running for office has been incredible this cycle. Oh, and they're smart about it too-they talk about running for city council, for the school board, for small local offices in general knowing that it's a great start.

Her camp got the word out to fellow Dems to cross the line and vote for him during the primary and targeted him with primary commercials that called him "too conservative for Missouri", knowing that would immediately trigger some to automatically vote for him.

It's a game plan that should be followed over and over again in other states.

but a big shout out to all the tea party! I've said it before and I'll say it again, the tea party is the best thing to happen to Democrats in a long time. Between the like of Akin and his ilk, throwing out whackjob candidates like Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle to lose congressional races they otherwise could have won, hoisting up presidential nominees like freaking Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Gingrich and Santorum because Romney isn't hateful enough for their tastes, for fracturing the rebublican party so much that it paid off in spades for Democrats both in the presidential and congressional races.

tea party, I salute you!
