They divide the conservative/republican vote, making them un-electable.
I loathe them and all that they stand for, but so far, they've helped us quite a bit.

(18,636 posts)They were promising a level of fiscal responsibility that required they bring home no pork. They swore to vote "no" on every spending bill that came before them, and the Tea Party loved to hear that.
The problem is, that congressmen only vote "yes" when there's something in the bill that has an earmark for their district. That's how we get things done in this country, and that's how we divvy up the federal money. A library here, an amphitheater there.
'Baggers were watching federal dollars go to neighboring districts while they saw their own property taxes rise because their reps said "no thanks" to Washington cash.
I think they have buyer's remorse.
