Dems on track to pick up 7 House seats

Democrats went into the election with 193 seats, Republicans had 242

It's been difficult to find total numbers for Congress although it did seem that Dems picked up seats eg, both Mary Bono Mack and her Husband were defeated. In my District, Democrat Julia Brownley has defeated Repub Tony Strickland.

If this is accurate, Dems would now have 200 (maybe 201) seats and Repubs would have 235 (maybe 234).

Dems on track to pick up 7 House seats

Democrats appeared on track to net seven House seats, cutting into Speaker John Boehner’s Republican majority.

As of Wednesday morning, the Associated Press had called 192 seats for Democrats, and had them leading in another eight races that remain uncalled. The AP had called 232 seats for Republicans, and had them leading in two uncalled contests.

Democrats lead in the following races that remain uncalled:

Oops, wrong link. This is the link I meant to post:

Dems on track to pick up 7 seats

Some of the races listed in this article have been called. So it looks like Dems did pick up at least 7, maybe 8 seats in Congress.

Which means Dems gained in the House and the Senate and won the WH! Not bad considering how many seats in the Senate were at stake eg and all the money spent on Congress and the WH.

the difference is 600 votes and change, yup that close.

It will go to an automatic recount. (I expect Peters to win actually, but will be close)

Also Bilbray said something interesting last night... "Whoever is sworn in, in January."

I think he knows. But I am not ready to call it.

is very close. From the article:

California’s 52nd District. Democrat Scott Peters leads Republican Rep. Brian Bilbray 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent with 100 percent of precincts reporting.

and we will have an automatic trigger to a recount and all that fun, UNLESS Bilbray decides to save some money to the Citizens of San Diego and concede... his tone last night... I don't know, he just might.

try to save some to put towards their next attempt. I'm sure people like the Kochs and Sheldon Adelson are not too happy with all the money they threw away.

So you may be right.

Though they may stop it once Peters builds a lead... which I expect to happen.

There are approximately 475000 Absentee / Provisional ballots still to be counted in San Diego County. Im not sure how may of those will effect the race (the Urban core of SD is not in the 52 district, Im guessing about 30% of the remaining might have 52nd race on their ballot - about 15,000 ballots - but thats just a guess - we should no more later today when sdvote.com updates its totals).

"Unofficial results posted online by the Michigan Secretary of State and Associated Press show that Benishek defeated McDowell by less than one percentage point, with only 2,297 votes separating the two candidates.

The McDowell campaign issued a press release indicating that it is working to ensure all absentee, provisional and military ballots have been accounted for. The campaign also referenced "discrepancies" in AP numbers and possible tallying errors in some counties."

This is from the article linked in the OP. I don't think it was counted as part of the seven seats gained by Dems. It would be great if it turned out to be another gain.

Michigan’s 1st District. Republican Rep. Dan Benishek leads Democrat Gary McDowell 48.2 percent to 47.5 percent with 100 percent of precincts reporting.

I went to try to find out as it seemed we were beating some serious Tea Baggers.

I kept seeing numbers that hadn't changed, ie Dems 193, Repubs 241 or close. Didn't seem right and it wasn't apparently.

I think picking up 7 seats is great and it may be more. And getting Alan Grayson back in Congress is just fantastic. He's the Repubs worst nightmare as he never minces words when it comes to them.

has a comfortable lead. When I looked last night, she was a bit behind. I'm about one block out of her district, my representative is Lois Capps, but most of my city is in the other district. She will replace republican Elton Gallegly who retired after a bit of redistricting. This makes me happy!

campaign, but like you, I thought she had lost last night. When I saw these results, I was just thrilled.

Gallegly, the retiring Republican, held that seat for 25 years, so this is a significant win for her.

No mention of the losses they took. I haven't seen it on the MSM either. But if this was a Dem Congress, you can be sure we would hear how they lost seats in the election.

Dems need to reframe that with 'Republicans lost seats in the House and the Senate'.

So far I have not heard them do that.
