He brings on these Republicans or Trumplicans to ask crazy questions and play Fox sound-bits to keep him talking. That is why I love Rachael and Nicole because they don't do that.Ari only positives is when he talks about breaking news of a report ,either TRump Muller report, J6 or Trump documents.I just turned him off. Sorry to those who enjoy him.

(24,330 posts)or the news. I'm a big music fan, but it doesn't always need to be part of a political discussion.
Otherwise, I like him and watch him most days. I like that he is a lawyer and I like his legal perspectives on some stories. It beats reporters who have to say "I'm not a lawyer, but..."

(10,754 posts)The insurrection. Then I caught that interview. It was disgusting. I looked that man up, and he was in legal trouble for fraud.
I have not been watching the news much, per my doctor. I'm sorry I saw that interview.

quoting some hip hop lyrics for every damn interview.

(7,873 posts)I don't like his interjecting silly lyrics or jokes into otherwise somber discussions.
I've seen him as a reporter/legal analyst and he's very good at that.
Not so good at being a host, at least not in my opinion.

(102,379 posts)as he's not using rap references with a guest who clearly knows nothing about rap (and misses the reference in a cringe-worthy way) while Melber acts as though rap and arcane buried lyrics ought to be everyone's thing. I'm embarrassed for the guest as I empathize greatly and it makes me really angry at Melber.
He can be a good interviewer, especially on legal issues, however. Occasionally he holds RWers feet to the fire, so there is that.

of republican insurrectionists' crimes. You might want to rethink this critique.
At first I thought you were going to complain about his penchant for citing rap lyrics, which annoys some, but his straight reporting is extremely strong lately.

(11,155 posts)or is this another attempt to change the English language?
brush
(53,876 posts)unless it's your non-familiarity with constantly changing regional slang (maybe you've heard off-the-chain. or off-the-hook before?).
After reviewing my head I saw that I left out a key word so I get now what you're saying. But again, slang is constantly changing, and sometimes you just have to be up to date.
whistler162
(11,155 posts)that Iwas asking about. Slang is only good where the slang is understood not on a national or international discussion board. But I agree Ari Melber is not that smart.
brush
(53,876 posts)I don't think you've watched much of Melber tately as he's been off-the-chart smart (there's that slang phrase again, this time not bungled) in his analysis of the insurrectionists actions and republican backers who dare to come on his show.
One really infamous instance was when he got ex-trump adviser Peter Navarro to admit on the air of participating in an attempted coup. Melber fact checked him repeatedly on his lies.
Here's a link to it, you'll have to scroll down to the video: https://theweek.com/law-and-order/1008615/do-you-realize-you-are-describing-a-coup-msnbcs-ari-melber-grills-peter
Melber has done other recent fact-checking interviews of repubs lately, this is just the most well known one.

(11,292 posts)show 20 different pictures of him while doing so. The people in the control booth are stuck on same same shit. I don't know if it is the talker who runs the show?

(10,074 posts)music references that often nobody gets. He brings on rap artists and others that have nothing to do with current events. I think he should go and host a celebrity talk show and get out of the politics. I stopped watching him.

(6,619 posts)The man is brilliant and was always a solid contributor.
As I watched him on his own show though, the music references were an immediate turn-off. If he'd done that as a panelist, I wouldn't have thought as highly of him as I did.

(3,170 posts)You can see the reluctance in his face. He is far too careful imo. I realize as an attorney being careful goes with the territory, but when a guest is 100% lying and you 100% know he is lying, NAIL THEM! That's the kind of thing we need right now. Less getting walked on. Way too of that happening in our party.

(29,098 posts)Other than that I think he generally presents good legal info explained in plain language in a manner that we non legal types can easily understand. I wish he would focus on that rather than trying to be too "cute" with the popular culture references. He just looks ridiculous and a little desperate to appear hip.

(19,847 posts)As for bringing on repubs, I think he does it cautiously. He generally gets what he wants out of them but doesn't allow a lot of grandstanding. Today with Rep Donalds was edifying to me. I got a good feel for how/why he was embraced by the GOP. He's no Herschel Walker being manipulated, he's a clever player.

. and here at DU I have read people praise him to the skies.
We all have our preferences in personality-types, which is what this boils down to. Just this past week I read a really nasty thread where the OP called Katy Tur a moron and all these people jumped in to agree. FFS. As I will continue to remind people, she earned her spot the hard way durinf Trumps first campaign, including by him setting the mob in her so vividly that his Secret Srvice guys met her afterward to personally escort her to the news van.
And so it goes, and so it goes.
