I felt like I needed to wait till the next day of the election to post my analysis, to let us be in the moment.
Now I feel like thier are some troubling aspects of the 2012 General Election.
There is no doubt that I believe that Americas choice to move Forward was the best one.The victories of Obama and the Democrats across the nation were hard and very challenging. However, lets look at the Money that was spent in this election with record donations on both sides and the influence of the super PACs.Even congressional races were highly financed.Victories gained by the American (really the center)left has showed that maby big money didnt really do much in corrupting the electoral process and is highly overstated?
To sum it all up I fear Citizens United is here to stay.

(5,764 posts)And Obama has clearly indicated he would not exactly be looking for Citizens United friendly appointees. Decent odds it goes down if we get some new judges in there then it gets challenged.
Exactly, with a liberal USSC majority, Citizens United can be challenged all the way to the SC and hopefully overturned by the new Court. This may take 3 or 4 years, but it's doable.

(175 posts)Amendment 65 passed in Colorado 73 percent to 27 percent. Symbolic, but significant.
Fuck Citizens United.
I voted for Amendment 64 and 65.
And Amendment S to help the veterans find work.

(4,795 posts)That's working on your premises.
But perhaps your premises are incorrect; just maybe big money did corrupt the process, but did not discriminate between candidates who had an "R" or a "D" after their name.

Sure, but the point is that Koch and Citizens United were defeated. That's all we can do, defeat them repeatedly and soundly. The demographics are changing very quickly so time is on our side. If republicans and their bankers do not move to the center, they will be marginalized and become a regional party with less and less power.

(489 posts)I'm starting not to fear citizens united as much. It gt a huge blow. If we can engage people and start directing people away from tv ads by telling where the money coming from we may be able to neutralize it. If rich see that can't spend their way to power they'll stop spending. I'm gonna evoke Howard Zinn when he said the way to beat money was buy people volunteering sticking together and educating. Meanwhile there is always Wolf-PAC which is a support for a constitutional amendment taking away corporation person hood
